I saw a documentary about the Animals on KZbin, and Chas Chandler said that Eric had a special gift of making everyone in the audience feel as though he was singing directly to them. He said it’s not something that you can learn. It’s a gift! I agree.

I just love Eric Burdon. Great voice, great on stage magneticism. I always like how he gives the stage to his musicians during the interludes, so the focus can be on them. He probably knows he is such a force on stage that all attention is on him. It shows how much he respects his bandmates (whichever ones he is playing with) that he pulls off to the side and lets them have their moments. He has very good bands, selects material that is just right for the mood he is setting.

Once you become good with singing and playing instruments, something called your self-esteem will improve. Yeah, indeed. Nothing disastrous musical performance - wise. You notice the state he's really in when the band is soloing and he wanders around with manifest dizziness and making funny gestures. But when he's singing he manages to get over everything and own the stage completely.
