cute, eh? haha most commenters on the scriptures have tunnel vision: they only know a specialised narrow view and cannot present anything outside of it. On the other hand, the realised being has direct perception of all the Vedic knowledge and thus can speak on it effortlessly. The great example of this is Rāmana Maharshi, who could speak and compose in classical Tamil, Sanskrit, and several other languages without noticeable effort.

You’re welcome 😇 Yesterday a close friend & I had a very interesting discussion about spiritual leadership. He remarked how so many of the prominent disciples of my _ādi-guru_ and others had gone down the path of making spiritual teaching into a business, exploiting disciples etc. and asked me how I avoided that trap. I told him about a few years back when I was also a _guru_ with many disciples worldwide. At first it was enjoyable. But then gradually I became aware of a dark place in myself, where I was merely using spiritual teaching as a pretext for getting people to listen to me and for manipulating them, controlling their lives. There must be some pretty heavy _karma_ associated with that, because even though I tried my best to explain everything, as soon as I tried to extricate myself from the entanglement of being a ‘guru,’ my so-called ‘disciples’ cruelly turned against me, cut off all communication and manufactured a horrible scandal that took a long time to unwind. After that I realized that they had so little self-confidence, they needed someone to tell them what to do-even what to think. Their expectation was that I would continue to enable their intellectual laziness and lack of self-integrity, and they were enraged that I could walk away from that codependent relationship. I also learned that *authentic* spiritual leadership means giving knowledge and blessings unconditionally, without demanding anything in return. So that’s what I’m doing now.

@@ConsciousnessRC wow. thats shocking..that they tried to rope you in a scandal..you are lucky swami ji that its over and you came out of it else it could take toll on the mind and give depression. All those institutions, organisations running business..I never wanted to be associated with them..its very difficult to find a guru who can guide one on his journey.. and here we have you on youtube..the most unimaginable place to find one such gem. Swami ji I want to do chanting and atleast have a routine to do some basic focussed sadahna..there is such a burning fire in me..but I am caught in this worldly affairs that I cannot do it..but this bug constantly needles me.. how to over come my laziness and find motivation..find an anchoring reason to do it..can you advise something on this please? Much gratitude.

Yes, the scandal was shocking, I never imagined so-called ‘devotees’ could do such a thing. But they were planning to operate a drug dealing business under cover of my organization, so I was disgusted with them. It was a great mental and emotional burden, *until* I realized that I was creating the situation by regarding myself as ‘guru’ and them as ‘disciples.’ Once I let go of that fabrication, the whole thing dissolved without any real effect. The danger of spiritual organizations and communities is that they are self-made mental conditionings or traps. One begins to define one’s identity and measure oneself in various ways in terms of the organization, its structure, views and so on. One entraps oneself by adopting this view of one’s identity. It’s a kind of black magic, a mental trap so subtle, you don’t even see how much you’re entangled until it’s too late, you’ve invested tons of time and energy, and the social costs of leaving the group are very high. Regarding letting go of material desires, I’m planning to make a video on that. It’ll be titled, _Her Tender Mercy is Everything I Need._ According to psychology, neurosis is the state or condition of not knowing what one really needs. We think we need more money, more friends, more this or that. But what we really need-and don’t even know it-is Mother’s love. When we chant Her names and think of Her with devotion, She responds from within with such beautiful tender unconditional love, far beyond the ability of any mere human being. We start to realize, “I don’t really need more of this or another that-I was fixated on those desires because I mistakenly thought that getting those things would make people love me. What I *really* wanted was the Mother Goddess’s perfect unconditional spiritual love.” And the only way to get that is to call on Her with love.

@@ConsciousnessRC It' so interesting you mention this topic as it has been on my mind today. In a way, spiritual development may be understood as piling up new and more practices in order to get more out of the deity we worship and life; while in reality it just means we should simplify our life including keeping the relation with our Goddess simple. Perhaps I saying this from my own perspective, as I tend to read to much and I should be practicing more ;) As for the topic of dependency of Guru, I believe it also works in the opposite way. I imagine there are devotees who place their guru on a pedestal he or she doesn't want to be on, and project onto them all types of wonderful attributes he may or may not possess. They aim to make him responsible for spiritual practice resulting in some ways they imagined. This mechanism also applies to how people treat famous people in general- for example, people expect famous actors to provide entertainment to them and inspire them with the expansive life they are living (so they can live that glamourous life through them) but get angry once they behave in a way they didn't expect their true personality to be. Instead, they should be learning how to be entertained on their own. I thank you a thousand eight times for this lesson! I fell in love with this mantra and can't get it out of my head :D

"The union of Śiva and Śakti is the primary stage of sound which is called parā. This primary stage leads to the next stage called paśyantī where the first differentiation begins to appear in the process of evolution of speech. In this level, the sound becomes more perceptible but continues to be inaudible, though not yet manifested. The previous nāma suggested that one should look within to explore the inner consciousness. But what happens if inner consciousness is explored? It leads to the beginning of nondifferentiation, the vision wherein the Self begins to realize all others as its own. This nāma says that She is in this form of speech. The concept is that She is the beginning and end of speech. It can also be said that speech originates and dissolves in Her. "The next higher level after paśyantī is madhyamā. This stage is called the intermediary stage between the origin and the end of speech. Here the duality begins to appear. In this stage the individual consciousness-the psychological result of perception, learning and reasoning, where the mind develops capacity to analyze and differentiate-has not reached the empirical level. At this level, intellect, one of the components of antaḥkaraṇa, begins to influence the consciousness, which is in the impersonal stage of development. This is a stage where one can talk to oneself. *Mantras are chanted and recited silently in this stage only.* This is because while reciting mantra-japa, the inner Self alone should listen to the mantras and not anybody else, not even one’s body. In this stage only the uttering Self alone can listen to the sound. Whisper develops from this stage. Step-by-step of Her manifestation in the form of sound is discussed in these nāmas." - _The Confidential Meaning of Śrī Lalitā Sahasranāma_ drive.google.com/file/d/1QgL0dHho31KwpI_knp3DCSVdHp8TMF5t/view?usp=sharing

While learning the _mantra_ pronunciation and _mātrā_ (meter) one can chant aloud softly in a private place. Once learned, it should always be chanted silently. You can use a _sphatik_ (quartz crystal) _mālā_ to count the repetitions. Chant slowly and carefully, with love and affection. One round (108 repetitions) should take 30-40 minutes.
