Oh, beauty. Thank you so much for posting. Was on a 757-200 out of Phoenix about a week ago, for a vacation in Kona, HI. The climb out was absolutely amazing. Very high and very fast, with an astonishing view of the whole city and the mountains. I love the 757-200. Very comfortable and reliable aircraft.

Nice video. 757's have the highest thrust to weight ratio among commercial jets. Number of years ago I timed a 757 take off - from full throttle to wheels up at 17 seconds ! The plane was accelerating so fast I could feel the seat backrest pressing hard against my back. Within seconds it was airborne pointing steeply into the sky.

@@mah584jr The RB211s, from the L1011 to the B757. The best noise to have if you want to take a nice nap. I especially loved them on the L1011s while riding in the last few rows, I could sleep wonderfully all flight long with the Number 2 humming along making the flights wonderful (with the only issues being off-loading at arrival at the gate and taking a long time getting some 400 odd passengers disembarked). Good memories and thank you for sharing.

It shows how the power to weight ratio evolved, even from 1970 when three RB211s powered the DC-10's equal, the Lockheed Tristar, to the 1980s when that same engine powered the narrower bodied, lighter 757!

It's because of the pressure differences between the front and rear of the intake fan. The more altitude the aircraft gains, the quieter the engine gets. That's because of the cold thin air. Jet engines love the cold thin air. That's also why that sound is more muffed in the winter time. I can tell how cold it is by listening to the sharper sound of the jets that fly over my house from MSP.

That sound is heard only when sitting in front of the engine and is caused by the blades going in supersonic speed.

@@everythangtexas He was talking about the engine roar in general not just the power down. You can hear the roar the moment the pilots throttle up for take off from the ground right into the air. What else would be causing the sound? The speed of the blades has everything to do with buzz from the engine and you do indeed need to be in front of the engine to hear the buzzsaw noise.

South Mountain was my favorite spot...the peak with all of the radio towers. Drive to the top and you can see the entire city. But my favorite activity was to go out in my backyard at night and catch scorpions. I had an aquarium full of them! lol

Great video! Nice job and the same with the audio. To the poster afraid of flying, while the odds are safer in a plane than a car, not all airlines were created equal. Which do you trust more? Southwest responded quickly when the cabin sprung holes in one of their jets last year, and a PHX flight was involved. Consider Alaska 261 it took a tripped jack screw and loss of vertical control of their aircraft and a tragedy before they and the industry as a whole began to clamp down on maintenance.

Phoenix is too damn huge. Everything is so spread out. While flying on a Southwest 737, I had a layover in Phoenix on my way to San Francisco in October. Sky Harbor is one of the better airports I've been to. It's so clean nice. But I get to fly on a Delta 757 from Atlanta to Orlando for Thanksgiving. I'm so excited. It's too bad they'll be retiring soon.

I flew this flight when American West flew from PHX to PHL. I flew an Airbus 319. It is a great view most of the whole flight. AZ, NM, CO, TX, KS, MO, IL, IN, OH, PA.
