Travel by car early in the morning to beat the traffic rush and get a glimpse of the Mahaicony Villages via the Berbice Highway all the way to Mahaica Market which includes crossing the New Mahaicony River Bridge and the New Mahaica River Bridge. The picture is awesome.
I love the large signs with the names of the villages. That was a great idea and who came up with that brillant idea deserves a credit.
The Villages are Airy Hall, Huntley, Grove, Park, Mary, Farm, Taymouth Manor, La Raisonable, Ormsary, Yorkshire Hall, Drill, Sarah, Now or Never, Bushy Park, Perseverance, Belmont, Cottage, Planters Hall, Quakers Hall, Fairfield, Carton Hall, Rebeccas Lust, Harmony Hall, Columbia, Strangoen and Belvedere.
Mahaica Market is in Mahaica, and the village is called Helena.
All the villages are located on the East Coast of Demerara between the Demerara River (in the West) and the Berbice River (in the East).
It is a beautiful picture with the trees and houses along the Berbice Highway but there is another beautiful picture hidden behind those trees and houses. It is a whole new ball game. It is a picture of vast areas of flat farmlands where farmers are busy working hard to produce crops for the nation and for export to other countries.
I asked one farmer if he ever gets time to lime and he said that that was a thing of the past. Farmers are just plain busy. There is just no room to idle because time is money here.
