Amishji, this has been haunting me since childhood when I came to know that English or Western day starts at midnight and nothing to do with sun rise or sunset. Here is what I want to tell you that you didn't mention one important aspect. How day can start at midnight when sun is the regulator & factor? It's like Islam's telling earth as flat, Christian's sun revolves round the earth. British grabbed entire world, sun didn't set in their empire, hence they decided & dictated what they liked. They shifted time's Centre to their land. Unscientific, everyone now knows, but bearing yet today! It's not that they didn't try to set "starting of the day with sunrise" at Greenwich, but when tried so, entire calculations gone upset. Hence decided to keep timing aligned with actual central point @ Mahakaal, Ujjayini, hence difference of 5½ hrs. Hence midnight, a ridiculous unscientific though. It requires a mass awareness among world scientists and RECLAIM our TIME, World's Perfect Meridian. You plz spearhead a drive, a mission.

Amish ji let me add one more point for your viewers, you might be aware of that gravitational constant is less in an around Ujjain. Thats because since the ancient times the gravity is a bit less than other places on earth. This is the only place where Prime meridian and gravity is less, hence it is also called a center of earth on surface level, very helpful if one is thinking in terms of rockets launches as time and gravity are crucial for all sorts of calculations.

There's a low gravitational anomaly near Maldives. Didn't know there was one in India as well.

You missed whole thing about how world learned time calculations from ancient Indians. The middle east guys used to calculate the direction for prayers based on Ujjain as prime meridian... Indeed it was PM till british rule happened... Where they used same science calculated time in native place

@@ankitkumarrai8652 the location of Ujjain played important role in astronomy during the ancient and medieval periods. Ujjain was the Greenwich of the ancient and medieval world and most ancient astronomers in India and Arabia used this city as a reference point for their astronomical observations. Āryabhaṭa I defined the distance between Ujjain and Sri Lanka as one-sixteenth of the Earth’s circumference in the north direction.35 This gives the latitude of Ujjain as (360)/(16) = 22°30’ which is quite close to the actual number.

Sidebar: The current time zone was created by the British so that the Railways can have an uniform time.for all of India. Since the British was based in Madras, they rounded up the time of Madras based on the Greenwich mean time. This was done in the year 1802 by John Goldingham. The longitude of Madras is 80.2705 degrees east. Four minutes difference for every degree of longitude ( 24 x 60/ 360), the time in Madras has a differential of 321 minutes rounded to 330 minutes - 5 h 30 minutes! It was then called MST - Madras Standard time , later changed to IST. Now you know..

@@shaileshkumarmisra5058 I missed some points . But here is the article in THe Hindu on this subject. "In 1802, the port city of Madras, for all official purposes, was gifted with the knowledge of its ‘place’ in the world. John Goldingham, working from the Madras Observatory in Nungambakkam, identified the longitude of the city as 80°18’30” east of the Greenwich Meridian, five hours and 30 minutes ahead of the mean time. With the newly-instituted coordinates, days officially began at midnight, as opposed to sunrise. For the first time in the subcontinent, an official local time zone could be used. For the mercantile British rulers, for whom the adage ‘time is money’ struck close to home, it was imperative that Madras Time remain consistent and accurate. At Fort St. George, a time gun was shot at noon and 8 p.m., every day. The dropping of the semaphore near the marine office at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. further kept tabs on the ticking clock. In 1884, with the International Meridian Conference in Washington D.C, Bombay and Calcutta were declared British India’s two official time zones. Threatening to severely complicate the functioning of the railways, the government was compelled to adopt a standard time that could function as an intermediary between the two time zones. Madras, by virtue of its equidistant positioning, lent itself to exactly this. Madras Time thus became ‘railway time’. By the late 19 century, the entire subcontinent (except Madras) was straddling two time zones - local time and ‘railway (Madras) time’. Jim Masseoles, an Australian historian, in his essay ‘Bombay Time’, notes that all train schedules had Madras Time printed beside the local time from then on. Madras, in effect, clocked time for the entire country. In 1881, Sir James Fergusson, the Governor of Bombay Presidency, created quite a stir when he unilaterally passed a government resolution to shift to Madras Time, which was quickly rescinded, consequently. In many ways, Madras Time was the precursor to the Indian Standard Time (IST), established in 1906. Interestingly, even when Madras had to shift to IST, the city lucked out by resetting its clocks merely nine minutes in advance."

By this logic, you can place the zero meridian at any place in India which is on the Tropic of Cancer and build a temple there saying it this temple is located exactly where the zero meridian and Tropic of Cancer intersect
@97sourabhКүн бұрын
Yeah it can be made anywhere on the tropic of cancer but in the case of India, the place is such that it divides India in two halves so that sunrise and sunset time difference could be minimised at extreme of Eastern and Western ends and also a place where a good population and powerful ruler is living to fund scientific discoveries. So that is why ujjain was selected as the best location for this purpose.
