I agree firmly with you, @GospelVibesHu -lg7lu! I'm a disabled elderly Black woman myself, been widowed for several years, and I love Sis Mahalia's singing as she EXALTED Jesus Christ our Savior! I feel the Spirit through other Black people who are saved when they sing to the glory of God!

The secret is that the descendants of slaves are actually the Israelites according to Deuteronomy 28.
@jayonnaj18
@jayonnaj18 21 күн бұрын
@@byronstevens8085 Amen, I also believe that the descendants of slaves are the TRUE ISRAELITES according to Deuteronomy chapter 28! They were dispersed out of the land of Israel in 70 AD under the armed forces of the Roman Emperor Titus and Jerusalem and its Temple was completely destroyed! I don't believe those people living in Israel now, who came down from Europe after WW2 in 1948, are genuine Israelites at all! God said HE would gather the Israelites back into the Land when HE got ready, and those living there now are FAKES and TOOK THEMSELVES down into the devastated land of Israel! NO PROPHECY was fulfilled concerning the actual Jews returning to Israel in 1948, for God Himself paused the PROPHETIC PROGRAM at the Feast of Pentecost in the book of Acts chapter 2 and ushered in the Dispensation of the GRACE OF GOD (see Ephesians 3:1 - 10) which was an UNprophesied program and kept secret, hidden until the Lord revealed it at that time in Acts 2! We are currently living in this, the Dispensation of the Grace of God! Glory to Almighty God!

Like someone said... those handclaps were when the Holy Ghost was coming on her. You can feel it! They had power. No riffing and over done hairdos with bling and low cut blouses. No praise team behind her with blue jeans and coordinated shirts and blouses... Just the voice that God gave her. Piano player playing to accompany her. Nothing orchestrated. People appreciating that an angel is singing. Not needing all the theatrics. This is how I have patterned my gift of music. Thank God for my mother encouraging me to just sing for the Lord and nobody else. Thank you Mahalia.

Over and over again! Am I the only one who turns away from imitators? They may imitate her voice but they can't touch her genuine passion. The difference in genuine black gospel music is that it is sang from the heart and soul. Performance is not a concern. It's all about the message. You can sit in the poorest of black churches, some still wooden and perched on concrete blocks and listen to the old folks who never went to school pat their feet to the beat and rock the church! Today's Kirk Franklins and Hawkins and nobody else can touch'em. As the old saying goes, they've been immitated but never duplicated. Let the old school church say Amen.

@cindyrolle6476, my sweet late mother would also lift up her voice in song singing spirituals and played the old 78 RPM records on the record player from way back in the day! Mahalia Jackson was her favorite! Both my mother and father would sing, however, and she and Daddy would TAKE us 3 little girls (my 2 sisters and I) to church, not just SEND us! Mother would allow ONLY spirituals and hymns that exalted my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to play in the home and was very strict about it! I'm sooo glad she was since I've been washed in the Blood of the Lamb for nearly 46 years now! PRAISE JESUS CHRIST!

I suffered from infertility tried for so many years to get pregnant. I always prayed to god to please bless me with a child. I was watching a mother play with her son on tik tok one day I cried and screamed to God "God please give me a child!!!!!" that same day something in me told me to take a pregnancy test... it came back positive! I couldnt believe it I was in tears and in shock!I took more pregnancy tests and they all came back positive! A week after I found out I was pregnant I found a cross necklace a few steps away from where I worked at and I then knew it was really God all along and never left my side. I now have a 11 month healthy beautiful baby boy. He's turning 1 in a few days! God is good!

You can't help but sense the Holy Spirit pouring out as Mahalia's voice rises high with power & intensity. Her eyes are lit up as bright as stars and she takes off when she gets to "I feel like shoutin!" This is what real singing in the Spirit sounds like!

This was one of the first gospel videos I ever saw on youtube. 16 years later and it's as powerful as the first time I saw it. I love how it slowly rises in intensity as Mahalia and that woman in the audience have a little friendly tug-of-war back and forth. Mahalia asserts herself, drowns out and eventually overwhelms the lady. Not even tape warble can hold back the power of this perfect performance.

This is my favorite Mahalia Jackson song of all time. I only wish younger artists and church musicians would listen to this purity using just a piano and the extraordinary, God-given spiritual blessing of Ms. Jackson's gift. The musical quality is awesome and the message is phenomenal exhortation. Thank You Mahalia Jackson for your life so wonderfully lived through God-inspired, spirited music.

Terrence Cummings Unfortunately many of todays "christian" artist are so tainted with secular stuff that they cant reproduce genuine singing/music. I dont know all about Ms. Jackson but from what I know she refused to mix her singing with the mess of that time. She wanted to sing and give God the glory.

I remember as a little kid we would hear Ms. Jackson singing early on Sunday morning without the music with her window up just tear up the place singing her songs , singing so forcefully it would bring me to tears I would just stand there In total awe of what I was hearing ,coming from a human being I was so taken by this lady singing , and she would see me & wave at me then I would go on to the corner candy store.

I just came across this lady by chance on KZbin. I had never heard of her. I don't have the words to describe how her singing is effecting me. I'm somewhat familiar with the great jazz, blues, and soul singers - gospel, not so much. It's kind of silly of me posting this comment, because obviously you've heard her sing - you understand! I am moved to tears. Oh, and by the way, I'm an old white man. Her singing touches the divine. To me, it goes beyond all the worldly strife and division that is tearing us apart. If more people could be moved by her singing the way it has moved me - we could be healed.

Then, I found a clip of her singing this song (How I got over) at Sir MLK's rally. I looked up her name and it means "teanderness" and "affection". I believe this will be the middle name of our daughter when she is born hopefully this year 2021. Jahnaya Mahalia (God's grace is tenderness and affection). Help us pray that God will grant us our Jahnaya Mahalia

praise jesus for helping my forefathers over the red sea praise jesus he will do the same thing for us don't worry so called black and african he will deliver us again on his time not ours as it is written Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? as it is written 13 And it came to pass, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel? 14Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 15Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession. 16Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come. 17Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel. 18And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence. 19And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: as it is written 2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. 4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. 5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; 6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; 7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. 8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. as it is written For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. like i said before on his time not ours
