As a presiding officer I can add , Observer till 6 pm collect data on mobile but calling each presiding officer, say he is not able to contact few PO ,then previous data of that booth is counted. Once EVM deposited at by PO HQ till midnight , then final figure is compiled . And in every state there are as many HQ as District in the state. Compiling data from lakhs of booths is a tedious job. Instead of criticising EC I think it should be appreciated. Being part of Election process 4 times I can say EC doing great job.

Please apply common sense. If you vote, you may have noticed that representatives of main political parties are ticking out voter names and are counting the votes. Also, the EVMs are sealed with signatures in front of the political party representatives and they sign the declaration of checking it. They again check them before counting the votes and again sign it! And after elections they accuse the EVM!

EVMs can't be hacked. The word hack is a misfit. The EVMs can be manipulated ofcourse when peogrammed through an algorithm or by way of replacing the data bank or at the time when slips are being printed. The other day I saw a video from an IITian. It was on the same lines. EVMs are being manipulated SELECTIVELY based on what is strategically important to the government. And the government is very smart to SELECTIVELY doing it to make it non obvious and keep the argument alive as why orher parties are winning in other states.. I believe a perfect system would be one in which 1 - voter presses a button on EVM 2 - VVPAT prints a slip which the voter can then hold in hand (the officials can see the slip being printed from the backside without revealing who the voter voted) 3 - The voter puts the slip in a separate ballot box (the officials again can see all this and have to ensure that the slip has been put in ballot box) 4 - vote count data is updated and periodically sent to a central database and made public 5 - Counting starts just after voting ends (like in usa) 6 - We first count each ballot box (aka 100% VVPAT), and then verify that EVM data is the same. If there is a miss match, count again, if still miss match declare re-election of whole state. Yes, if even on a single booth there is miss match, re election on whole state along with current ECI officials of that state suspended permanently. This rule will ensure ECI makes a system in which there is no possibility of miss match. This along with a parallel system which ensures that no voter is suppressed by voter list manipulation or using police to not let some people come out to vote would create a system every voter could trust.
