Had Mahidevran been sent away here and Mustafa allowed to grow up without her influence he would have ascended the throne, and none of Hurrem’s children would have been killed. Hurrem did not want to kill Mustafa, it’s why she saved him as a child, but once he was an adult and still under his mother’s influence she knew if he ascended the throne Mahidevran would kill her children. How different things would have been if Suleiman had not let Ibrahim talk him into letting her stay.

It's suleiman's fault for being biased in choosing a wife. Yes, he can have as many wives as he wished but being respectful and loving to all his wives is the correct way to resolve this drama, "I am the one the sultan loves the most because I am beautiful" and "I will give him a prince" etc. He was very unfair to his wives and family from the beginning and in the end he killed his son too. Except Ottoman law forbade the Sultan from officially getting married. There could be a main concubine or Haseki as they were called, but there was never officially a Queen/Empress of the Ottoman Empire. Spoilers if you haven't seen it already, and this is based on the real life history of Sultan Suleiman. He will officially break that law and take Hurrem as his legally married wife in the future. In real life, once Hurrem came into the picture, Suleiman dismissed the entire haram as he only wanted Hurrem.

Honestly I like Selim II more than Suleiman. He is hated because he didn't have a warrior personality and that he was drunkard. But he is not first,nor the last sultan who consumed alcohol(for example Orhan I,Murad II,etc). He wasn't appolitical,and didn't depend on Sokollu at all. For example,Sokollu wanted peace with Venice,but Selim order the campaign of Cyprus(even though he didn't take part). He also keept in touch with his wet nurse,and regulary visited her and even played chess with her,he also respect Humashah(Mehmed's daughter)so much,and treat her like his daughter. Selim II is the most misunderstood sultan. Also Handan, Nurbanu, Halime, Kosem, Turhan, Gulnus and Saliha. They are the most misunderstood. They weren't evil, power hungry, cowards, weak and etc.

Not in this time period. Woman were kidnapped and forced into sexslavery. As hurrem was. She was a priests daughter who was kidnapped and sold to the sultans mother as a concubine. Meaning her life is to oy serve the sultan and carry his son. They had no other choice in the matter. At one point the mother was so a concubine robbed of her childhood and sold or forced into marriage with the previous sultan. Usually kidnapped is what happens. Mahidevran is also a concubine. They have no right unless freed by the sultan himself. Their face, and body must be pure to him only. No having children with anyone else. It's a treason to do so and can be accompanied by death. Back then woman didn't have rights. Their only option was to be a wife and have sons. Sons are the most important. Daughters cost too much money and were only good for selling. Which sounds horrible, but that was the case back then. So yeah he tells her why she refused him, because in his mind and the belief of sultans in the ottoman empire denying the sultan the means of pleasure at a whim is like committing treason. It's not allowed, and can be your death sentence. Also the fact that she denied him twice made her more wanted by suliman. She played her cards. Yes it was a risk, but she was betting on that her denying him what he demands makes her more of a treasure he must have and hold. It's a 50/50chance it would work, and it did. He came running to her which is something that NEVER happens. A sultan doesn't go to your chambers like that ever. As a concubine you go to him.

They are not just "anyone", and Suleiman is not a simple man of today. He is a sultan from many centuries ago who officially had many concubines to choose from, could have as many favourites as he wanted and could sleep with any of them whenever he wanted. To be jealous of another concubine or favorite was still a normal human reaction, but it was not like it is in today's Turkey or wherever where a man has just one wife who he is not supposed to cheat on. In Suleiman's case, it wasn't even cheating - as I already wrote, it was all completely official.

Again from what I've been able to find the story of mahidevran beating hurrem came from a foreigner who claims to have caught a glimpse of it. We don't actually know if it's true or if the foreigner made it up to make the harem look bad. Very little is known about the life and feelings of the women in the harem. Edit: I could be wrong this is just what I learned when I looked into this a little bit. I'm not from this culture or this place.
