People seem to forget that regardless of the weird manga genre Mahiro likes to read, he is neither your typical lolicon shut-in or a siscon, just someone with social anxiety, a fear of loneliness and a feeling of disappointment in himself and his past life. To be honest, this new blank state and life couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Great compilation even though there are many other wholesome moments including a few times Mihari cried due to Mahiro doing things like going outside and making rice porridge when she was sick (yes Mahiro forgot the salt but it was the thought that count) 🙂

Asian society have very high expectations on the eldest child especially if they are male. Because mahiro is overshadowed by mihari's achievements, he felt like nothing he do could would mean anything thus he became a recluse. By turning him into a younger girl, mahiro was freed from that burden and her life has been better, and she even admits that it is fine if things stayed that way. The show is pretty woke when it comes to gender roles and societal expectations. Mahiro was trans not because she wanted to become a girl but instead she wanted to be free from the burden of being an eldest male child.
