I think the "The poise of Mahomes causes other players to lose their poise" is pretty accurate. There isn't a lot of data out there for this, but late game mistakes seem to be extremely rare, so you really do have to get a big lead and not let #15 have the ball (minimize number of possessions). Even then, Mahomes has a winning record coming back from just about any points deficit. It really makes the opponent get tighter and tighter and more and more frustrated when you have to punt or if you miss an open receiver late in the game. Turnovers can feel like a nail in the coffin in your psyche. KC is clearly a beatable squad, but to do it they have to play a pretty bad game and you have to play well enough to shrink the potential chance of a comeback. In the regular season, it can certainly be done. In the post season you really do have to be that much better on gameday to overcome the inevitable late momentum shift. Then cross your fingers. 🤷‍♂️

It's seems to me Kyle shanahan has not learned from his mistakes in his previous two super bowl losses. The 49ers made the same mistake the ravens did: they went away from what got them there in the first place, which was RUNNING THE BALL.
@JetForceFive
@JetForceFive 3 ай бұрын
@treyblaze22 I agree with you, but also the Chiefs defense was pretty focused on stopping the run and playing man-to-man on the receivers. They even had a spy on Purdy which I hadn't seen too many teams do to SF. Not many teams have the front 7 and secondary to do both - basically they wanted to force SF to throw the ball. CMC still got 20-30 touches I think - they just weren't standard run plays. So I totally agree that SF didn't run the ball, but a lot of that had to do with KC forcing the issue. What was there (if SF wanted to take it), were crossing patterns, inside slants and outside fades. This isn't a knock on Brock Purdy, but I think a QB like Allen or Burrow would have taken those throws even though the difficulty level is higher and the coverage was good.

@JetForceFive
@JetForceFive 3 ай бұрын
@treyblaze22 Totally agree. But in my mind I'm thinking of too many games and too many YEARS the defense was the letdown. So for me, they definitely played at an elite level all year and especially in the playoffs/Superbowl. But it's all a joint effort with Special Teams to give Reid/Mahomes/Kelce a chance to score enough points to win the games and the Superbowls. The D definitely wasn't talked about enough, but the end game is always giving Mahomes one more chance to make a play.

trailing by 10 points or more in the playoffs, in the history of the NFL, QB's not named Mahomes have something like an 11% winning percentage in those situations, whereas Mahomes wins 86% of the playoff games where he trails by 2 scores............. it's literally other worldly to see what he consistently does and how steadily he does it he is the best player we've ever seen and is already on a Tom Brady level pace of winning which just a few years ago people thought was literally impossible

his comeback ability will be the stuff of legend when he retires in a decade or so. Both teams had 2 turnovers. Both teams struggled on offense most of the game. Both teams had chances to win. As it turns on out in an ugly defensive dominated game, the Chiefs and Mahomes finished the game. If the PAT isn't blocked, Chiefs win in regulation. SF did not dominate the game. If anything the Chiefs dominated the 4th quarter and OT with 19 pts to SF 12pts. The Chiefs have been winning ugly all year long. The Super Bowl was no different. The Chiefs Defense had 20 games this year including the playoffs where they gave up 25pts or less. Purdy played well. CMC played well. In a tight game, Pat showed why he's the New Tom Brady. If SF goes up 14, the Chiefs still come back. Nobody really notices or mentions when the Chiefs go to hurry up at end of the half and eno of games they slay defenses..I think they should do the hurry in 1st and second quarters when they are struggling. A 3peat is possible. Can't wait! Great smash mouth old school defensive Super Bowl!

Brock played pretty well, and hes likely a top 8-12 QB in the league However, doesnt mean he can make it back to the SB. He's got only 2 years left with a roster this strong, before he starts hitting the cap himself. And you cant just "replace" Fred Warner and Trent Williams as they age The 9ers are in year 2 of their 3-4 year peak, and 1 of these years could be a SB hangover. Window is closing fast.

The same thing happened to Dallas last year vs the 49ers. The kicker missed an extra point that changed the whole trajectory of the game with an unsteady kicker. When saying this everyone says it is just an excuse. So the PAT being blocked is just an excuse. Winners find a way to win and losers find a way to lose. It is that simple.
@mattcarberry368

just gonna throw out a guess here, but maybe it's because there is a difference between just missing a kick and getting one BLOCKED? missing a kick is a botched play by the offense, getting a kick blocked is simply the defense MAKING a play.......also Moody hit what was at the time a record long Super Bowl FG so he had some good will built up in that game lol
