My caste people in uttar pradesh do make mahua alcohol in village .mahua and indian rice alcohol should be mainstream.But we all know non resident indians do collect raw materials from underprivileged but hardly pay them properly. We have already seen that how indian perfumery oils go to france and Italy and get sell in high prices but Indians from india always remain underpaid.

Adivasis of Gujarat used to make gud out of sweet mahua flowers. They also used to make cooking oil out of mahua seeds. Whole industry was destroyed after mahua trees were chopped of !

Not Urak but Feni has gone global. There are many local breweries in Goa who produce it. Most often people confuse Urak with Feni. Mahua liquor should have gone global long time ago.

I don't know if you said it to mock the traditionalists / right wingers but "Som Ras" is not alchoholic drink, the alchoholic drink is called "Soma" which is made from "Som Ras" by fermenting it. "Som Ras" is just the Juice extracted from "Som Tree" leaves. And yeah IT IS a great idea to start promoting "Soma" and all other kinds of Indian traditional Indigenous alchoholic beverages into the market, Just like what Japan did with "Sake". Kashmir has it's own wine making traditions since ancient times and many other regions also has it too. So yeah IT IS a great business idea / area and should be approached with utter seriousness.

After impleme ntation of prohibition Gujarat government chopped down lots of mahua trees! Adivasis used to sell it and there was big market in Gujarat! Cooking oil industry also suffered!

We used to eat it inAP when we were children it is sweet and it has something in it which makes you eat more despite not so tasty and little bit bitter in taste . There is saying even lord Ram eat them when he visited Shabari amma in Bhadrachalam forest.

I have always wanted to try mahua liquor but could not find it. I have heard people say that pure mahua liquor ( diluted adequately) tastes great. Tribals rights should be protected. I don't want large companies/ MNCs , run by indians or others , to exploit tribals.

Mahua I've tried tribal parts of Jagdalpur Chattisgarh and Malkangiri Odisha. There must be some way of SOP for monetising it through mass spirit production, so it can booster for tribal welfare. Indian government will banned anything that is Indian, especially in liquors. Just see the case of toddy in south India. It is much more tastier than many foreign liquors and is made from palms native to the country. But it is banned in Tamilnadu.

BTW, note that Scotch is from Scotland and not England, so the English are still drinking foreign drink when drinking Scotch (keeping the difference between UK & England in mind). On a similar note, I hope the tribals of these states have a council who has trademarked the name "Mahua" so that they are the legitimate owners of the brand and get royalty for it's use besides consumption.
