So, Maia Campbell was amazing back in the day for sure. She got her first role in a film playing Lucky’s cousin in Poetic Justice, then she went on to star in other 90’s hits including Thea, South Central, Beverly Hills, 90210, and so on. But of course, her most standout role was alongside Debbie Allen and LL Cool J in In The House. I mean back in the day she was a real baddie, and by far one of the most gorgeous women of the 90s, but somewhere along the way, Maia started using heavily and totally lost it! Like she was always getting arrested for something and was always strung out in multiple videos that went viral on social media.

Men and women have black balled into doing things that they shouldn't be doing. But when those powers that be have control over you and what you can and can't do, and are locked in are locked in bogus contracts. Everybody's not a Kanye, everybody's not a Jaguar Wright, and that's just the name a few that have stood up to the industry. Showbusiness is not the real world so there is always the possibility that Artists, musicians, and actors take drugs to, kill the pain of their personal problems and also to maintain the illusion, and deception of the celebrity lifestyle. I remember her fondly. Praying she gets the help she needs. Living with a mental illness is no joke and it can be hard to tell what you want or where you want to go. Everything can change in a second especially if you’re surrounded by those who don’t have your best interest at heart. You can feel like you deserve that and then the downhill spiral starts which is hard to recover from. When she is actually ready, she will accept the help. I won’t give up hope that she will one day accept the help she needs to get better.

I heard that when her mother passed away was the reason she really took a nose dive. So I thought she fell off so badly because she couldn’t deal with her mother death. I think it was her mom's death that drove her over the edge. She may have had some bi-polar issues, but her mom was probably the one who made sure that she was stable. I'm bipolar. It's very common for us to not take our meds. It isn't on purpose. We feel like they don't work because they make us people we aren't. Imagine feeling like that. Imagine not being yourself, but you have no choice... We often turn to drugs and/or alcohol because it is what allows us to get out our heads for a feel small time frame. She used to be in my neighborhood all the time. It was sad seeing her in that state. Everyone dealt with her out of respect of who she is/was. Yep, right off Redan/Hairston/Rockbridge. My kids swore that they saw her. I had no idea that my kids knew who she was bc that was my era. About another week or so after that, I saw her in the neighborhood. 😔The issue here is that for all the people who watched Maia on tv and in movies during her reign in the 90s this was the absolute last thing you would of expected to see happen to her.😩 The most unfortunate part about her addiction to drugs is that even if she goes through a drug treatment program and gets clean she still knows mentally how those drugs make her feel and it's that very feeling that keeps a person hooked on them. So you see in order to cure drug addiction you would at a minimum have to somehow erase the memory of ever even doing the drugs in the first place for a person to have the best chance from relapsing. As long as a person possesses the mental capacity in understanding how good those drugs makes them feel even after a 12 step program is complete that person will never truly be clean from doing them again. For all who took the time to read this if you're looking for the honest truth regarding the subject matter then I just gave it to you and that's a fact!!!!! Maia is in serious trouble and it would take an extremely highly form of intervention for her to make a full recovery. This is beyond prayer, the community as a collective has to step in and handle it and Maia has to be a more than willing focused participant. It's really that simple.👌

@@carmel23 Hypnosis is a great place to start for sure. Maia needs to return to a place somewhere in the mid 90s to remember how special her image was during her time on television and in films. An intervention is going to have to happen in order for her to get clean. She's going to have to be forced into a facility to get clean and then stay there for at least a year to be monitored and most importantly be denied any drugs that can get her high again. That's the only true way to fix her is to remove her from society for a while. Basically put her in prison without the consequences of a real prison. It will be tough but it's necessary so that she can have a chance to be the star she always was in the beginning of her career.👍😎👌

First and foremost, I believe losing her mother best selling author Bebe Moore Campbell to brain cancer in 2006 had a devastating effect on Maia because if there's anyone we can count on who will give us their last dollar and will love us even if we don't love ourselves is a "good mother". It's obvious her mother's last novel "72 Hour Hold" was influenced by her own struggles with Maia. It was heart breaking to see Maia's estranged relationship with her own daughter. I wonder what Tyrese Gibson thinks of Maia's fate since she was the star of both videos for his 1999 hits "Sweet Lady" and "Lately".

To be diagnosed with a mental illness is one thing, and to be a drug abuser is another. But to have both issues at the same time, simultaneously! Is OVERBEARING!!! AND TO TOP ALL OF THAT OFF! HER MOM PASSED AWAY. AND HER DAUGHTER WAS AWARDED CUSTODY TO HER HUSBAND...THOSE ARE SOME HARD THINGS TO COPE WITH EMOTIONALLY, AND MENTALLY! I TRULY FEEL SO MUCH!!! EMPATHY FOR HER. Being famous isn’t like being on screen. There is a lot of pressure to stay on top and maintain a personal life. You can clearly see that she needs a lot of support and healing from within. Maia is not struggling because of the industry. Maia is struggling because she refuses to take the medication that will bring normalcy to her life. Maia continues to make one bad choice after another, and her addiction supersedes help from her family and friends. You can't help someone who really doesn't want help. It's sad. I am praying for this woman. However, I have a sister in the identical situation. My sister has always had the support of her family, but her love for heroin has twisted our love into betrayal and dishonesty. Maia, like my sister, has the support of her family. However, Maia has to want help and want a better life. Once she stops being the victim and realizes the strength she has, nothing can be done by the family except to wait.

The real problem here is that even if Maia takes the medication to give herself a chance at a normal way of life she still mentally knows how great those narcotics make her feel and it's that one element that is going to forever keep her in the spiral of permanent addiction. This is the precise reason why so many people can't get clean in the first place. It's the memory of using the drugs itself that must be destroyed.

The hell you know about having a mental problem and not want to take the medications, that make you sleep all day or feel like a zombie.. it sounds like she tried to self medicate and got caught up. marijuana can mask the symptoms of mood disorders, for a little bit until it doesn’t. Don’t you think that she was trying to feel better as an artist and still have her creative control. She was avoiding medication that took that from her and she just fell in a hole. She didn’t do anything wrong, her only mistake was her existence.

The drug abuse like in many addicts is a coping mechanism to deal with a sick brain and usually not the cause of the sorry situation most street people are in. Drugs and alcohol are merely a coping mechanism and not the root cause of their conditions.. She was doing ok, acting, working in the 90's because most mental illnesses don't start to outwardly exhibit signs until the late teenage years to late 20's. That's when you start seeing obvious signs of a sick person, which is when her life started spiraling out of control..
