Original owner passes away before he could fly the D18, friend helping survivors sell RC planes sold this D18 to Me. The D18 had never been flown. I taxied, did a 360 range test prior to the Maiden. Thank you for watching, subscribe become part of Team Let's Go Flying.

Actually that was a great maiden Jeff. The fact that you had that issue at the end doesn't negate the fact that it flew well. Fortunately no damage and she lives to fly another day!

David that's how I look at it the TWO maiden attempts with flaps. I just never even thought about some Genius of RC setting reverse thrust on a Beech 18. The second hit was from a higher altitude where I almost recovered but hit harder doing easily glued damage. Smart esc programmer came yesterday, will remove thrust reverse today. Thank you Jeff

This is a prime reason that modelers make the best student pilots. This is a great (system induced) VMC demo for my multi students. Modelers know more about aerodynamics, the effects of wind, and CG loading from the outset. They know more about stall/spin scenarios and pattern work than the average student. I hate the word average since flying an aircraft takes above average skills to begin with. Great video.

Wow Jeff. I know you a great pilot. Come to thank of it as crazy as this sounds, the reverse thrust may have slowed it a bit before contact with the ground which lessened the prospect of damage. So glad the mishap worked out in your favor. I have this model too. I need to take it out more. Really is a nice bird to fly scale. Reverse thrust is nice to have on some models like float planes but I personally prefer not to activate on most my planes that have that option. Like to see you fly this one again. You will definitely like it. 😊

I made the same mistake on my Draco. Separated all surfaces and left without reverse thrust. Sorted that and went flying. Selected full flap and into reverse thrust! Thought I had hit the reverse switch by mistake and then she crashed - unbelievably just a snapped stbd gear. Amazed when I discovered what I'd done wrong - flap and reverse thrust were sharing same channel whilst also on separate switches. So testing rev thrust on the ground it seemed normal. Never did a ground test of selecting full flap with engine running - wouldn't have occurred to me to do so!

I bought this used partially assembled. I finished putting together and bound it to my NX10. I setup everything including the flaps. I didn't setup reverse thrust. I put the props back on after setting up the linkages and my flap settings. I did taxi it in the yard but never put the flaps down, at the field I did my 360 range test. I didn't watch the first flights maiden that went great until I put down the flaps. It was gusty and I first thought it stalled. I went out for the second flight and it was a nice day and when I hit the flaps I knew it was reverse thrust. Then after watching the flight videos you could see it go down as soon as I hit the flap switch. I don't know if the previous owner set up reverse thrust or not. Thank you Jeff

The reverse thrust is set by programming the ESC. I still can't believe that someone would activate thrust reverse on this plane. All the damage is glued up from the second whack in which from a higher altitude. You can't program the dual smart esc with the transmitter so I ordered the smart esc programmer and removed the reverse thrust. The Beech is ready for the rest of the maiden flight, thank you Jeff

After this whack all I had to do was add a little glue to one of the verticals and tighten the screws on the horizontal. WOW Jeff, Great flight sucks to have a crash like that on a new plane but if your going to do it. do it like that wow it really handled it really good. I didn't keep mine all that long, it was a great flying plane and i enjoyed reverse on the ground but not in the air. Flaps and reverse shouldn't be together that for sure. You can put it on whatever channel you want if you have the program box.. I had to land mine all the time in cross wind, it did pretty good. Hey are you going to SEFF This year? Don't know what all places you attend. I am hoping to meet more folks there this year. Happy flying.

Chris I was shocked that guy, he died before he could fly it, that bought this put in reverse on AUX2 which is the flaps channel. I bought it from his neighbor that was selling his planes for the Widow. I didn't watch this video until after the second flaps reverse crash that took some glue, two carbon wing tubes, and a prop to fix. I had to get a smart esc programmer to change the Reverse in the smart esc which I did today so the Beech is ready for some great flying. I don't reverse on the Beech. Your video on the smart esc programmer helped. SEFF is so close I was planning on going for day at least, don't have a day picked yet, can go on any day, let me know when you're going. Thank you Jeff

Crashes are all part of it. Interesting about the thrust reverse but looked to me like you were going too slow and perhaps a gust of wind overloaded one side. Eather way atleast its back and ready to fly. My first a10 had this sort of thing happen alot until I started giving it more power than it needs to fly.

@@JeffinLowerAlabama yeah its interesting to me as I never figured out entirely what was causing my old plane to crash just had it replaced but a malfunction in the engines would explain it as mine crashed exactly the same as yours. Got it up and the a10 would tumble like it lost a wing.
