First real flight of my Dji Phantom 2 Ready to Fly Quadcopter - With Zenmuse H3-2D Camera Gimbal. I did fly it for about two inches in my front room the night I got her.
The footage comes from my GoPro 3 is attached.
I got everything put together the other night in probably twenty minutes? If pushed, I could have likely finished in ten. Quite easy. Much easier to fly than the several $30-ish copters I have had. Battery life was I think a bit over twenty minutes though I'm not sure exactly. I've pondered buying another battery and think I will. When the copter was running low, it started to descend nicely.
A few things to point out
these shots really were from my first flight session. I did have a flight or two where things were more shaky, but really, within about two minutes I felt confident enough to let my daughter have a turn
takes off so smooth
smooth generally, even with a bit of wind
the kids on the playground were pretty well awestruck
I edited out most of the shots that show the copter while in flight, but left a couple in, like around 39 seconds. Generally the blades showed up when I was flying pretty fast. I bet if you adjusted the gimbal, you might be able to avoid shots of the blades. Sometimes the landing gear would also appear in shots
yes, you can control the gimbal via the remote as shown around 47 seconds
I could see a preview of my GoPro shot on my phone, but then once I started recording I'd lose the preview. For some more serious work I plan on getting the shot set up then starting to record. I also think it is something I can throw money at
the quite smooth footage starting around 55 seconds were from the copter's go home safely mode
yes, the shots are not strictly in order :)
I don't want to hype it, but it was SO MUCH FUN shooting this footage and playing around. SO AWESOME! Got to be one of my coolest purchases ever. I feel like some rookie reviewer from the Des Moines Register hyping a movie, but today I shot pretty cool, smooth video. From a helicopter. 'nuff said.
Thanks to the Open Goldberg project for the music.
