Mail Coif - The importance of a fitted mailcoif #1

Hello Warriors, my name is Comunes Dimicatores, i'm a XIII cent's reenactor, and in this video i want to show everyones the importance of a perfect fitted chainmail coif (my new work). I can wear the coif comfortably. I wear under the mail only a padded coif but then i'll wear an iron skullcap for a better protection. Around the neck i put a simple leather strip. The coif is under construction and this is an experimental hypotesis.

glad you actually fitted your mail coif. In a lot of reenactment, you see people with loose dangling mail around their necks. And not only does it seem more awkward and unweildy, period depictions very obviously show them to be almost form fitting.

Amusingly, this is basically the inverse of donning caparison for horse armor. The best one is loosely fitted so that any strike would not directly hit the horse body.

I must to think if use this in a reenactment, it's very pretty, but the weight, heat, breath under great helm and pressure by many belts... i dont know if i will put a lace un may neck.

Im a spanish mailer and my current project its a riveted chainmail with coif and mitons. For solve this problem without a lace around the neck, i go to try a cut at front of mail of 10cm with small laces to close it. And will be more easy to put and quit the full mail.

@@juaniscar824 i chosed this solution because a lot of miniatures show the leather strip around the neck, i tried this solution also with a great helm and aslo with a skull cap under the mail coif and for me it is confortable. Your solutions sounds good but do you have sources about this method in XIII cent?

@@ComunesDimicatores , i dont found it in any source. It's may first project joining coif with body and that is my first (and wrong) idea. My favorite source is maciejosky bible (or Mogan bible), and yes, i must to search more sources. I'm here searching working examples. Thanks you very much to share this, I've seen on your Instagram that you struggle to explore historically correct methods.
