Plan 9 From Outer Space was one of my favorite movies. It scared the hell out of me as a kid. I had no idea who Vampira was at the time, but I'm so happy she made the movie if for no other reason than to get a good look at her playing the part. She didn't want to do the movie but agreed only if she didn't have to speak. None of her TV shows were saved so Plan 9 gives us a few good looks at her. Vampira's the kind of immigrant we wish we had more of coming to this country.

I really do like Elvira. I will not deny that and I am not ashamed of that. However I have such affection for Maila Nurmi. She was wonderful! I am still terribly saddened by the fact she is that she is no longer with us. She was a truly magnificent lady.A beautiful and a wonderfully witty person. Raconteur - I had to look that up but she was indeed a fantastic raconteur. Enjoyed hearing who her inspirations were and the inner workings and development of Vampira. To me it makes Vampira even more endearing and captivating. She put a lot of thought and work into her and she completely deserves credit anytime people draw from her creation.

God, I come from seeing lots of videos of Elvira and I sadly discovered that this charming lady invented that type of character, and I never saw or know anything about her until now. She inspires me so much respect.

@Morbius Emperor Elvira is the true icon. I don't know why people compare them they don't even look remotely similar. Elvira has the better looks, jokes, sass, personality, etc. It's like calling Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson the same character. They only share a few similarities but they're very different.

She was the original at what she did; though here she points out that borrowing from others is part of the creative process. In a way it's all a matter of degree. I am sorry to hear about the lawsuit, and how it went. It seems to me she deserved way more recognition for her work.

It's great to see who started the hot goth chick thing. But I must say it's a bit of a shame that she felt the need to sue Elvira. Elvira is quite different. Sure she's a show host as well, but personality-wise... so very not the same. I guess you could say Elvira is a bit...louder and more wild? And don't forget Morticia Addams, she was a hot goth chick too.

I'm not sure if Elvira and Vampira have anything more in common than both being female horror hosts. Vampira is a strong, sensual, androgynous character filled with malice and beauty. Elvira is the trailer girl you live next door to that you could go out for drinks with. Both are wonderful, but completely separate from one another.

Nurmi dropped the ball with Vampira. She didn't do anything with the character since the late 1950's. Which is stunning, considering she held the rights to the character. Nurmi didn't have the right to sue Cassandra Peterson any more than Charles Addams and The New Yorker should have sued Nurmi. It bugged me how this lady didn't do anything with Vampira until Peterson came along and created something better.

Do we know who stole her memorabilia from her family yet? I know there is supposed to be a book, The Vampira Diaries coming out... but it was promised in print in fall 2019 with a gofundme raising almost $21,000..then a release in early 2021..seems like the project is having trouble.
