Mailchimp Email Automation Hack for Free Plans

May 10 2024--No link to use Classic Automations. I got through the first step or so, but then it came up with a "Page not found" error. So I went back to the Classic Automation and just used the Welcome Email. Hope it works. You'd think a welcome email should be a basic plan thing.

You're absolutely right. The full use of Customer Journeys is currently only available with the Standard Package. That was an oversight on my part. Thanks. I'll add it to the description.

Unfortunately, this workaround no longer works. When I click "Begin" after inputting the title of the first automated email, it goes to a webpage that says, "That's odd This page appears to be missing."

I just tested it and was able to get to the same screens as in the video. This was with an older free account. There are times when newer free accounts have fewer features than older ones, but it might be worth a 2nd try.

Hi, thank you for this video, I still use this workaround! The start trigger I use is a tag they get from the form on my website (not a Mailchimp form). The connection is via API. But I was wondering when someone subscribes again (like someone wants to download my ebook again) they don't receive the first email. How can I solve this problem?

Yes, you would create a Landing Page that adds a Tag to the contact, then have an automated email that sends any time some is added to that Tag

What great timing! Just one question: Does the last email in the series need the post-send action "remove tag"? I'd like my new subscribers to begin receiving my regular emails after they finish the welcome email sequence. If so, I'd need to be sure to segment my master email list with subscribers who are "not tagged". Is this correct?

I would have the last action be to remove the first tag. Then you can send your "everyone" email to everyone who does not have that first tag. They'll have that tag through the whole time they're in the series.

I have one question- if we are doing a 4 part welcome email series should we have it so the welcome email #1 sends immediately after sign up, email #2 one day after tagged, email #3 two days after tagged, email #4 three days after tagged? Or should each one be only 1 day after tagged since we add a different tag in the post-send action? Hope this makes sense...

You'd just do the number of days after they get the tag. So if you only want 1 day between emails, you'd just put 1 day delay.

Since setting up the welcome email using the link in the video's description, new subscribers are not showing up in my mailchimp account and yet people are getting a double opt in email despite me unticking the box for that. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel like I completely broke my account somehow.

It sounds like the problem you’re having is with the form you’re using. Often forms with have their own checkbox for double opt-in.

I currently have a mailchimp landing page connected to my website that people can click on to subscribe to get my freebie. I have also then created an automated email sequence to go with this. All these people get added to an audience called ‘fly spray pdf’. I have another audience called Your Horse and Pony matters and want to combine both audiences so that I have just the one audience. However once I’ve combined these audiences I don’t want the YHPM audience members to receive the automated email sequence, but I would like any new sign ups to still receive the sequence of emails. Is there a way of doing this? And if so how? Also, once I have combined my YHPM audience to the ‘Flyspray pdf’ audience can I then delete the old YHPM audience list without loosing the email addresses transferred that I have transferred across?
