Boy, what family would find it comfortable to have a daughter in law join them for Christmas, after she had spent years trying to make her husband look bad, not only to the children, but to the world at large. What did she expect? To expect them to welcome one with open arms is unbelievable. If I had been Diana, I would have stayed well away. But I would never act like Diana did. When I think of those times, and the chaos and drama comes to mind, I again find myself exhausted. Imagine how the family felt?

True words spoken. Diana, initially quite innocent and sweet turned into a PR caricature. She loved it. She used her deteriorating relationship with Charles effectively and ruthlessly. There is some comparison between Diana and Ms. Markle. Though Diana had class, in abundance, and kept her negative statements about the Royal family to a minimum. Ms. Markle lacks ANY class, grace or truthfulness. To sum it up: l'histoire se repête...

Anyone in a relationship that goes through intense obstacles knows how difficult it is never mind on the public stage ! I’d imagine if Princess Diana were here today she’d probably tell both her sons she shouldn’t have used the press to hurt people…I believe KC learned that too ~ it must sicken him to watch Harry doing it never mind his wife. She really wasn’t even apart of Harry’s family for long b4 becoming so vile! She and Harry are truly disgraceful , I can’t ever forget the way the late Queen was treated , along with many others ! Diana didn't feel welcome? By 1993, the Morton book had already come out; what else could she have expected? Good thing she never became queen; her behavior was often embarrassing.
@ridingtheroad18521 сағат бұрын
Charles wasn't? I'll never forget his recording. YUCK! He and his family were in charge and IMO she was trying everything to save her marriage to a man she loved but finally had to realize he had never loved her at all, she was just the one "they" felt would be correct. How sad. Charles and family ruined the life of a beautiful young lady who eventually died a horrid death and who's son's were stuck with a father who finally grew a big enough set to put his foot down and be with the person he actually always loved.

Her behaviour was a result of the total betrayal of Charles. He was sleeping with his mistress, but when she sought on some kind of love, SHE was criticized?? She gave Charles 2 children so her job was done! No wonder she was suffering with mental issues, married to a horrid cad! I still have no respect for him. As she well knew, there were 3 of them in that marriage! But was she expected to just sit back and live a lonely life? Many wives do just that, but Diana was an amazing person, and she decided to simply do what Charles was already doing!!! My heart goes out to her!

It is rediculous that people still see Harry as a 'poor little orphan boy', he's 40, married, has children, and is supposed to be an Adult!!! Hes a failure to launch, and he married a narcissist who stalked and trapped him into marriage for the fame and money, but if they really do have kids, they are the ones I feel sorry for, with a witch for a mother and a man-child for a father, with no training in royalty but royal titles slapped on them (by decree of MM) they will never fit into the society that the titles are linked to....and they don't even get the friendship, love and support from the extended family, like all the other royal children get....again because of MM!!

It is very obvious from the Sandringham Christmas walk and at Catherine’s annual Christmas Carol concert ~ and many more formal celebrations and informal moments captured on video or in photos ~ the Wales’, Tindall’s and Princess Beatrice’s “bonus child” (Edo’s son Wolfie) are VERY close and enjoy spending time together. Also the way the grownups act with ALL the children ~ Mike Tindall goofing around with Prince Louis at a Jubliee celebration, The Princess of Wales including Mia Tindall while she and Princess Charlotte greeted the Christmas crowds at Sandringham, and Louis and Wolfie waving madly when they saw each other at the Carol Concert! We will never truly know what goes on behind closed doors. But it is obvious that the 2nd (3rd?!) generation of children have a closeness that cannot be faked. I don’t feel sorry for MM and Harry, they are living with the very real consequences of their own actions! But I do feel sorry for their children who are missing out on being a part of a very large and loving family.

In my opinion, both HRH CIII and princess Diana desired aromatic love, and agreed to a marriage that was not going to produce it. It was a business contract, if anything. They both made choices that could only lead to grief, unless they were both committed to the business side of the contract. I think that Diana often receives more sympathy out of traditional attitudes toward male infidelity, and due to her masterfully managing her public image. Both sons are victims of their parent's unsuccessful marriage. You don't have to be royal to experience this. Harry seems to have a more adolescent emotional state regarding it.
@graphiquejack17 сағат бұрын
I figure at this point it’s all old news and people really need to move on, esp the Sussexes. All four people in both marriages behaved badly. At that point, it’s a wash. Divorce is messy. I think it’s all too human for relationships to sour like that, and it’s silly to demonize or sanctify any of the people in question because cheating is evidently pretty commonplace, if you look at current divorce rates. The only difference is, the public wanted a ‘fairy tale’ and so they made up a narrative accordingly, with a Bluebeard, a Wicked Witch and a victimized fairy princess. It’s all hogwash. None of those ‘archtypes’ fit. Charles was hardly a cold vicious serial adulterer, Camilla wasn’t some scheming woman out to destroy her victim out of jealousy and ambition, and Diana wasn’t an innocent victim. They were human with good and bad qualities, under enormous pressures to keep up a particular image even though it was increasingly impossible to do so. We can’t force people to be in love and be happy. It’s high time we accept that royals are human and should, after all, be allowed to marry whomever makes them happy… even if it’s… ugh… a b-list divorced actress. Lol

Yes, Diana did as much 'chasing' as Charles, as she went on hunting and fishing trips, which she immediately dropped after they married (whereas previously, Charles and Camilla enjoyed all those activities and horse riding and all the country gentry activities), Camilla was always more suited and they should have been allowed to marry...look at the long and happy marriage they could have had, and Diana could have married someone else who had the time to fawn and fuss over her, as she was a very needy person, damaged from her own parents divorce....

But Diana didn't expose 'all the secrets' and only mentioned one of her lovers because she knew it was going to be exposed that weekend by a Sunday Newspaper! Her intention, as always, was to appear the 'innocent, vulnerable woman-child who was a victim' but by the time the Documentary went out she was on her 5th lover; the first (her married personal Police Protection Officer) got sacked when the affair became known in royal circles (but not publicly) and she quickly moved on to lover number two (a single Cavalry Officer who was a playboy) and that lasted 5 years with Diana sneaking him into Kensington Palace when Charles was away working. Oh man. Christmas 1992. Young Harry is walking along with his hands balled up into fists, biting his lower lip like he's furious! William may have had his hands balled up as well, but you can't really tell. Those two boys really went through hell during the divorce years. As all children do. Such a shame. Isn't it too bad we don't get "do-overs" in life?

Vivid memories of my sister, mother and myself wrapping Christmas presents, the day after my father died. You have to move on and William has.

Yes, there's only the one life..and we can live it to our best, like William is.... or we can remain stagnant, steeping in our own self-pity, refusing to grow up or move on,... constantly blaming the world for everything, instead of accepting there is a greater power, that life (good and bad) happens, challenges us, and we have to deal with and make the most of our few short years on earth. Harry will be on his deathbed one day, and he will realise, he wasted his life and every opportunity given to him.

For all the whining MM and Harry do about “unwanted attention” on her, they really have no excuse because she chose to marry into the BRF! If anyone deserves sympathy it is the Middleton family!! More “tabloid” photographers ambushed them just trying to go about their lives than MM ever had to contend with! I remember Pippa madly dashing to pull up the cover on the pram while out walking her first child, Arthur, in the park!

Althorp, not Althrop.

It's pronounced Althrop, clever clogs.

I'm from Northampton so I should know how to pronounce it. 🤣

Richard, shame on you! You a journalist and all, you should know that the correct address is “Sisters-in-law” and not “sister-in-laws” 🙄

Sarah was never glamorous.
@lynettefinnigan954011 сағат бұрын
Agree, she was always rough around the edges, just because she hung with the royals because daddy was a general, and managed to pick up the posh accent, didn't mean she was ever refined or cultured....

I wonder why Andrew has such a look of distain on his face, walking *ahead of* his ex. Bizarre to see them out and I hope it’s a one of.

It is fascinating to see Princess Diana amongst the Royals. She was incredibly beautiful and Sarah in her younger days was also quite the knock out! I can see that it was very tough on King Charles at the time. I'm sure that he is one of those men who take ages to grow up emotionally and at the time probably handled the whole situation poorly. Too bad his second son received all those genes from his father and mother. I think Haz will realize one day what he has done to his family but...maybe not.

Richard, thank you for the trip on memory lane. The early ones, I watched and read all about as it was happening. This just hurts all over again for Diana, too young to be deceived/trapped like that. One can think Charles has very little to be proud of as husband and father those days. As always, the kids suffer, lucky William who survived, can't say the same about Harry. Time passes and heals some wounds, hopefully for many.

So many people seem to cling to the myth of “Saint Diana”! Probably in a large part because she died so young. But one truth that Harry repeats is “I am my mother’s son.” Yes, he is! In all the wrong traits! Rather than sifting through her complex character as Prince William has, and chosen to follow through on the empathy and kindness she expressed, especially for the homeless ~ Harry has chosen to accentuate the drama, paranoia and blaming others for everything! People seem to forget that she was Lady Diana. She mixed in those circles, she was never forced to marry, she Wanted to be a Princess and eventually a Queen. She used to go fishing and hunting and all sorts of things when Charles was courting her, but stopped doing all those activities as soon as they married. She played her own part...and even her own sad death was down to herself, she would have survived if she had simply worn her seatbelt, as the only survivor of the crash did!
