Well, it ain't because they're American that they're screwing these names up. We have towns in Massachusetts here in America with the same names that are pronounced the same way, & ppl from other states here in the USA botch their pronunciations up as well. So, dearest Europeans, know that the USA is a very big place with a myriad of different cultures & accents just like yr own countries.

Even just being American is a fair excuse. I’m Australian and our pronunciations are much closer than Americans are to British names. However, when I first moved to London I tripped up on a few. Streatham and Holborn got me.
