I have seen 'Father, Son & Holy War', 'War & Peace', 'Ram ke Naam', 'Jai Bhim Comrade' & now 'Reason/Vivek'!! In all these films he always introduces one major fault line in our society.. Caste. He shows how that plays along with other fault lines like Class & Religion. Just beautiful!

@@abhijeetashtikar i am from Pakistan and am a big fan of anand sahab's work. RAM ke NAAM introduced anand's sahab's work to me, while looking for some historical context of the Babri Masjid demolition and the rise of Modi. Later I tried to watch all his work to understand his technique of documentary making. His work inspires me every time, to show the truth and to objectivity analyze the problem at hand in most honest way possible.

Hats off to Anand Patwardhanji. When I watched his Vivek for the first time last year I just got hitched and binge watched his other documentaries. It is because of people like him that conscience and souk of India is still alive. Mr Irfan was incredible as usual.

🙏We must be proud of Anand Patwardhan for documenting truth about the times and life of India after independence ! He has the legacy of Achyut Patwardhan (who was his uncle and fought for independence from the British) this is not a profession as film maker for him this is compassion ,concern and passion about his country.his way of life Every school or college must show all his film

This interview, as usual in interviews of Irfan, is interesting and delves into deeper probing. It is interesting to note that Anand Patwardhan has made long documentaries of around 4 hours or even shorter ones of 5 mins so he is guided more by the content and subject and not a pre decided readymade script- very fascinating! Also am sure this gives courage to people who want to make documentary films without any script. The joiners could be a ‘commentary’ in the background which will act as a bridge to connect the shots which are bit away from the main subject but even then it is relevant for the film as a whole- that was quite learning for me atleast. Another interesting point to note is that he had been making films since 70s in very limited sources across different governments and has been raising contemporary political issues. So his voice is not against any regime but is essentially a tool to communicate the issues which needs to be addressed at that particular period. Some of his films were shot across years (even stretched to 14 years) is another proof that his vision is totally different and guided completely by the socially relevant subject and not by any market forces or else why would Netflix refuses to produce or broadcast his films.

Long back in Ahmadabad, Anand Patwardhan sir himself came for a three days event where in he showed each of his documentaries followed by a detailed discussion... Those were the eye opening 3 days... My entire way of thinking was shaped after those 3 days... Since then i have gone through each and every material available that is made by anand sir... And i must say irfan ji... This is the best interview of anand patwardhan sir that i have seen so far.... Hatsoff to your work and courage...

The strength of documentary is that no one can hide or lie on it. It IS what it is as it is . The only thing a maker of these film can do it is edit the way he thinks . And that depends on how deeply and passionately you show reality for bettering the life of people at large, not for money or propaganda Even though people know our culture and ancient knowledge ,it’s fragmented and no one thinks of it relation to real life .His documentary does that work for us ! Thanks for such a in-depth interview with so much of grace🙏

In the history of Indian cinema, I can put all the filmmakers on one side and Anand Ji on the other side..Thanks to rekhta and irfan ji for this interview.

I love how he skipped from 1990 to 'mid 90s' when "communal harmony" was affected. Apparently Hindu Genocide in kashmir during 1990s didn't affect the Communal Harmony. And I love how he frankly admits of his bias. It's because of this bias and tone-deaf attitude of intellectuals that BJP ruling elections and will continue to do so for next decade. That's also a reason why kashmir files did so well. Because people finally saw the other side of the coin.
