What is so special with the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the fact that he could lend credence to any lafz of the shayar with the exact feel, as depicted in the kalam, owing to his inimitable style of gayiki ! Besides, he had something divine in his voice, which had made him so special ! The great Khan Saab had given ghazal gayiki a pedestal, which will be very difficult to surpass ! Propriety also demands that one should have that much pragmatism and magnanimity in accepting the reality - by calling the spade a spade ! How right was someone in his assessment in saying - "People living in glass houses don't throw stone at others !" To get optimum satisfaction as also to ascribe some semblance of authenticity to it, why don't someone put this question to one's own conscience ! Because, conscience never lies ; provided, ofcourse, someone has any ! Let it be known that I have enough insights of my own in treading my path in this world and it has stood me in good stead, so long ! In this backdrop, I hardly require any certification/accreditation/green signal/go ahead/rating from any quarter, whatsoever, for moving forward ! I have been listening to him for 50 years, and each time I'm amazed at his singing. For me the two great ghazal singers will have to be Ustad Mehdi Hassan and Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan. There is only singer in this world who can sing it oh my God! Such deep vocal range and high octave, this man has incredible ability to control his voice even better than Muhammad Rafi, Lata and Noor jahan. No body can sing a Ghzala like him. His way to catch breath, chest Resonance, chest voice, consonant, dynamics, exercise, flat, intonation, nasal and over breathing every thing is perfect 👌 A legend that will never born again! Those, who dislike this magnificent ghazal, may either have no music sense or they don't have a knack for good soulful music ! Because, under no stretch of imagination can this rendition of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab be treated as below par or substandard ! The style of gayiki of the great Khan Saab or for that matter, any other singer can't be bad simply because it doesn't suit the taste of a particular listener ! It's not fair to cast aspersions or pass any disparaging remark on something which is not within the grasp of someone or beyond someone's comprehension ! My humble advice to the nay sayers -- "If you don't like, kindly don't listen ! No one is under any sort of compulsion to listen" ! Let it be very loud and clear that still, there are millions of music lovers across the globe who can live and die with the soulful music of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab ! I am now 68 years old ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab is my all time favourite ! Listening to the divine voice of the great Khan Saab during the evening for hours on end on daily basis has been infusing a new lease of life and the will to live in me every day in and day out ! The feeling thereof is divine and can't be expressed in words ! It has raised my spiritual level by several notches up ! How disgusting it looks ! Propriety demands that one should better ascertain one's own status first, prior to raising an accusing finger on others ! Propriety further demands that one should also try to inculcate the habit of seeing goodness in others, as well ; instead of, finding fault on every available opportunity, on the slightest of pretext, and at the drop of a hat ! It raises one's mental/spiritual level by several notches up ! Who was the great Mehdi Hassan Saab and what was his contribution to the realm of music is readily available in the public domain and in anybody's reach ! The sequence of events in the History of Hindustani Classical Music will amply testify to this historical fact ! Viewers hardly require any bidding from any quarter, whatsoever, for this ; and, the least, from a novice like this ! They are intelligent enough to draw their own inference/conclusion ! How right was the great John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his assessment in saying - "A man may die ; nations may rise and fall ; but an idea lives on !" In this backdrop, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab hardly requires any certification/green signal/go ahead from any quarter, whatsoever, for moving forward ; and the least, from a novice like this ! Propriety demands that there should be a limit to hypocrisy ! Who else other than a legend can truly realize the greatness of an another legend ! How right was the great Latajee in her assessment of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab in saying - "GOD resides in the voice of Mehdi Hassan Saab !" Propriety also demands that one should have that much pragmatism and magnanimity in accepting the reality - by calling the spade a spade ! How right was someone in his assessment in saying - "People living in glass houses don't throw stone at others !" Let it be known that I have enough insights of my own in treading my path in this world and it has stood me in good stead, so long ! In this backdrop, I hardly require any certification/accreditation/green signal/go ahead/rating from any quarter, whatsoever, for moving forward ; and the least, from a novice like this ! So, one should better keep one's own unsolicited advice/sermon/rating to oneself and obtain vicarious pleasure thereof with a view to satisfy one's own selfish ego ! Is that understood ! Someone should better understand it ! Last but never the least, I find utmost pleasure and satisfaction in commenting on important developments at the national and international levels in social media platforms like KZbin ! The great Khan Saab's excellence in rendering the low notes in this ghazal is a treat to listen. In this ghazal( Main Khayal hoon Kisi Air Ka Mujhe Sochta Koi Aur Hai), the great Khan Saab started the "Maqta" in low notes and gradually increased the scale to a crescendo in course of attaining the high notes which appeared quite startling to me. To be very frank, l was at my wit's end as to how he could produce such wonders when I listened to it for the first time. Perhaps, he was the most prolific exponent of low notes in the history of ghazal gayiki. Therefore, the connoisseurs of music can't resist the temptation of extolling such rare traits of this legendary singer. How highly endowed he was!
