The Saranda Jungle, renowned for its biodiversity and wildlife, is home to the Ho tribe, also known as Kol in some states. This region, called Kolhan, features weekly markets that serve as vital hubs for the local tribal communities. These markets facilitate the exchange of forest and agricultural produce among villagers and also enable interactions between tribal and non-tribal traders. Non-tribal traders bring goods such as clothes and utensils to sell to the tribals, fostering a crucial economic and cultural exchange. Recently, the Main Bhi Bharat team visited one such market in Bada Jink Paani village, located in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. This visit highlighted the market's role in sustaining the tribal economy and its importance as a social gathering point for the local Ho tribe. The market not only supports local livelihoods but also strengthens community bonds and preserves traditional practices.
