Maybe it's different for everyone but in my perspective eating supply dog meat and eating my own dog are two completely different things. I'd shower my dog with all my attention but don't feel anything against eating some other random dog. Maybe it's heartless but dogs are still animals at the end of the day and I think what matters more is the personal attachment you have to said animal rather than the species of animal
