I'm a Canadian player from South Western Ontario and though you are on a very good point that tons of box players have that loose bagging pocket, the past few years the field style pockets of tight channels and those mid-high to high pockets have made there way into the game and some of the best players I have played with and against all use a more field style pocket like what an attack man or midfielder might use. Love the video thought! Just thought I'd hit on the changing patterns in the Canadian box game that I've more noticed

You're absolutely right about it being an average hold type pocket. I used my field head for a long time and when I decided to give a "box bag" a go I noticed it's the same thing just a much quicker release. You want the ball in and out as quick as possible before you get the old cross check. Great video!! Keep the theories coming.

Nice job man, totally agree with what you said. Especially when it comes to player preference. Typically for my self I tend to use 4 straight shooters and a mid to high bag so the ball can sit right under that last shooter and generate either a quick release for the cross crease quick sticks or when I crank a out side shot so it grabs a little more to get that extra "whip"

Great Video man! Tons of info. I completely agree with it relying more on personal preference and playing style! The box players are so skilled with their stick control and being able to almost predict where the ball is going to be even before they have possession. So fast and precise its crazy! Oh, and that jacket, sweet stuff man. Keep it up!

I live in Calgary Alberta. I am coached by the Calgary roughnecks, I know from experience that their sticks look like they have crazy amounts of hold but they are just like a field sticks that have four straight shooting strings. Also up in Canada on my team who you guys use four straights. I either use usually two straight shooting or three. Good review breaking of the stereotype of Canadian box lacrosse sticks.

I tend to find that putting the shoots ON the balls resting position rather than above can mitigate whip and create a super quick release.

for me i use a decent channeled stick by using knots for he first 4 diamonds the just ones and twos for the pocket and a massive bottom string to some other peoples stick this gives me the consistency but also giving my stick the ability to shift around if i am in close which has worked out for me a lot and for shooter set ups i just use any kind of shooter set up but up on the first 9 diamond row i use a nylon so i get that snap so i know the ball is gone

i’m a Canadian player from the ola currently playing u15 my pocket is a mid high pocket with 4shooters and nylon under the first shooter, this stick has gotten me through playing with jr.b and varsity idk how i haven’t been called with it yet

Woooooah! Is that a tribe7 savage7 hanging in the back?!?
@mainelymesh8 жыл бұрын
+Tim Martin for me yes, but I don't think channel has to be dropped necessarily. This is for a future video as I get better with box sticks, but essentially you can have as much channel as you want so long as the ball is capable of sitting high in the stick...you just still want the top of the pocket to be soft like I mentioned. Only function issue I had with my first sequel iteration was, to me, it felt less consistent with quick sticks, but I think that was because I was aiming for a high pocket and had four shooters, so the fourth shooter was flipping the ball one way or the other. It's gonna be a fun time trying to perfect a box style as well haha

can you make a video on this pattern?
@nedrocker43108 жыл бұрын
Definitely an interesting topic, to me you have to do your best to string the absolutely most consistent head possible in box because accuracy is vital. But it definitely is different pockets for different players. If you watch Logan schuss the entire game he sits open high and ready to rip which explains his two u's but a guy like Curtis Dickson could in no way use that.

Love all the talk of box pockets. I know at Mainley Mesh you like to stick to less shooters; is there one specific shooter setup that you think is best for box lacrosse? Aside from the traditional 4 straight of course.

why do u refer to it as a canadian ?
@MOHvsCOD8 жыл бұрын
In box you dont typically have enough time or room to switch hands, so its easier and faster to bring the stick in your strong hand over to the off side of your body. Since box is more popular in Canada than Field, most (but not all) Canadian players don't really develop their off hand for the field game, they just continue to bring the stick over in their strong hand, hence where you get the term "Canadian off hand"
