The way this man talks..it just sticks to your brain.Great video.PS:not too many videos talk about the MOT expiry date.

2 points, 1st that MAN has a light test feature, press it then flash the full beams and it will cycle through ALL the lights for about 2 mins useful when your out by your self. 2nd reverse lights must work if they fitted but are NOT a requirement of an MOT. However in this case it was probably an over sight but you clearly got the fact the examiner is helping you check all your lights. Just say well done for the video!

uncoupling- pull forward away from the king pin..lower your ecas slightly to take the weight off the 5th wheel...this will lesson the chance of a very heavy trailer dropping down on the rear of the unit.If the trailer is front heavy it will lesson the chance of the trailer dropping forward on its chin. Coupling-air to low?..tug with legs on the ground?raise them with the ecas slightly to prevent damage. You MUST put the dog clip on b4 air and electric lines.Parking break,stay with it for a second or two,just in case, in real life you left the unit hand brake off..dont get in the unit with greasy gloves..dont forget to check all side trailer and marker light and the unit lights again...........good video..

Weird methode to uncouple. You should drive a bit forward untill the kingpin is free. Then you lower the the 3rd wheel to prevent getting grease all over the bottom of the trailer. Once you are clear raise the 3rd wheel again. Same goes for coupling on, lower the truck then in reverse till kingpin is almost in. Then raise the truck again till legs get of the ground a bit. Then reverse the truck till kingpin clicks into lock. Thats how you prevent damage to the legs. Drive a bit forward to make sure your hooked up.

One small point is that it’s poor practice to have the landing gear fully on the ground when doing the “tug” test ; the video showed the feet dragged and tilted and this can quickly cause damage , to the trailer and/or the yard surface . A quick lift of the tractor ‘s suspension prevents this .
@maninthecab6 жыл бұрын
aboctok That depends on how high or low the trailer has been left , in the video the legs were not clear of the ground which is why you could see that they dragged and tilted ; it only takes a moment to press the raise button until you see a small lift , then you know you’re not doing any damage.

I'm a trucker my self but one thing about it those are some funny looking rigs across the pond js🤷♂️ but why so many electric lines?? And glad hands would be better for the air lines then them quick disconnects
@TheRoybeasley4 жыл бұрын
The three electrical lines are (1) Primary electrics (position lamps, brake lamps, direction indicators, reverse lamps) (2) Secondary electrics (on most trailers just the rear fog lamps) (3) ABS/EBS. Ther reason for three separate lines is essentially for backward-compatability - an older trailer might well not have ABS/EBS or rear fog lamps and there are not enough conductors in the existing Primary Electrics plug/socket to accomodate anything beyond position lamps, brake lamps, indicators and reverse lamps.
@Dachamp20014 жыл бұрын
@@TheRoybeasley lol that's alot. Here the one electric line (7pin) works every thing marker lights, turn signals (left, right), brake lights, ABS. There's a optional electric line for accessories. The only ones you see with multiple electric lines are on multi axles (dump trailers)

Errors 1. 2:29 Pulling cables instead of the actual plug to disconnect the plug (that plug's too loose in any case). 2. 5:01 'Trailer' is not spelled "Trailor". 3. 8:54 "Sometimes air pressure will be low...." How can it be - you've just reversed back to couple with the trailer ? Nothing in doing that affects air pressure. Reinserting locking pin: the function of that should be tested too to ensure the trailer release mechanism cannot operate. It begs the question why a padlock isn't used here. 4. Testing trailer lights - not what I'd do. I'd switch them all on (without starting engine) - using hazard for both indicators - and walk round the vehicle to see that all are lit. For the brake lights, I'd ask the examiner to operate the brake pedal. 5. 12:21 That number plate is not secure AND you forgot to check number plate light - so best if number plate attached before lights check. 6. You didn't check tyre pressures on the trailer and from 12:21, I'd say they're too high (or there are too many wheels on the ground). Why is there a control to apply the trailer parking brake - why is it not on already ?
@newcastlewatson93704 жыл бұрын
whilst in revers the compressor doesn't run. thus if you are going in slowly in an automatic you may break a bit this running the air pressure low. if you don't leave the unit running in some cases when you reconnect the air line it is possible that the unit may need a couple of seconds to rebuild itself. also the dog clip is used to prevent somebody from been able to walk to the trailer and unclip it whilst sat at traffic lights or so fourth. but if you was to use a padlock in the event of a trailer fire and you need to separate the unit and trailer fast a padlock would slow you down and put you in significant unnecessary rick. a full trailer and unit combination has many lights and the practice of a light check while the engine is running is to protect the batteries. and your indicating on every subsequent brake check you will ask somebody who you don't know to enter your vehicle licenced or not to push your brake peddle to perform this check? drivers are equally not required to check tyre pressures with any measuring equipment as the tyres when messed with are at risk of detonating like small bombs. and lastly some people leave the trailers without the brakes on and if your going under the trailer their is a chance for you to bush the trailer back potentially killing somebody.
@millomweb4 жыл бұрын
@@newcastlewatson9370 "whilst in revers the compressor doesn't run" I've never driven such a vehicle but clearly you have less experience than I - coming out with nonsense like that. "if you are going in slowly in an automatic you may break a bit this running the air pressure low." Using the brakes in such circumstances will not run the air pressure 'low' - unless the vehicle is faulty. I've NEVER heard of a case where a trailer's been released while sat at traffic lights ! A padlock would be suitable for overnight unattended parking. "a full trailer and unit combination has many lights and the practice of a light check while the engine is running is to protect the batteries." Running all the lights for 15 minutes will take less out of the batteries than starting the engine. If that was a concern, better to fit new batteries. "your indicating on every subsequent brake check you will ask somebody who you don't know to enter your vehicle licenced or not to push your brake peddle to perform this check?" Only their hand need enter the vehicle - as this is done for an examiner, not trusting them is not really an option ! You don't need a licence to press a brake pedal. "drivers are equally not required to check tyre pressures with any measuring equipment as the tyres when messed with are at risk of detonating like small bombs." The driver is LEGALLY responsible (in the UK) for ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy. Doubles cannot be checked visually on an empty vehicle. A tyre pressure gauge is the usual option. Tyres don't detonate at times they fail, it's due to mechanical stress. "and lastly some people leave the trailers without the brakes on and if your going under the trailer their is a chance for you to bush the trailer back potentially killing somebody." I'm aware of trailers with this capability and am appalled. It's a case of convenience over safety. Bad practice by drivers. I wouldn't do it even if instructed to do so !
@newcastlewatson93704 жыл бұрын
@@millomweb so in reverse with an automatic when you press the brake you bleed air out the system. If you press the brake enough times it will deplete the available air and as the engine gear is set to reverse the compressor doesn't run. So it is possible to set a low pressure alarm of. Now I didn't say it's a frequent problem but it could happen, most 5th wheels have an extra little metal lock for the fifth wheel the dog clip allows a passing police officer to check its couple's properly and as I say gives peace of mind to the driver. A padlock would be again useless as you say in services before you set of you should carry out a full check thus you should check the dog clip. Now a walk round light check would usually be carried out at the start of the shift usually on a cold morning, so starting the engine allows the air tanks to fill up and equally you can check your lights and listen for any air leaks and so on all at the same time. And considering the cost of batteries running the engine and taking the stress of the batteries is always going to be positive.
@newcastlewatson93704 жыл бұрын
@@millomweb and it is a legal requirement for the driver to check the vehicle is CORRECT. a drivers tyre check is checking the tread and that they're free from cracks, tears, chunks missing, if it's a double axle there is no rocks and that they are correctly inflated. Now that last one is a visual inspection. I would argue no firm would want there drivers testing pressures with a pressure gauge. More report the low pressure and have it checked out?
