Salut, George. Thank you for writing to me. Where are you and what are you doing these days? it is always nice to receive an update from an old friend/victim! I'm 84 now and live with my wife, Pamela , on Bainbridge Island, Washington. I still teach all day every day (no Mondays) in 36 countries via Skype. The Pandemic has turned out to be good for teaching on the computer and I teach almost never in person since the virus got loose. . About half of my students have had some variant of Covid. It is amazing how many singers are down with the virus or have had it and have recovered. I hope you are well and staying that way! All the best to you. It was nice to hear from you. Has it been about 45 years since I've seen you? Ciao for now, Michael

Awesome video! This actually clears up a really confusing part of "leaning". It's not that nothing is changing in your body, it's just keeping part of it still so the right part (your back) makes adjustments. Cool stuff

Meastro, You are one of the few teachers I trust as a 21 year old tenor who is very protective of his voice. When I try your methods, I sing with relative ease. I have a question however in regards to the ''Mini-cough'' - is this the same sort of sensation which Jerome Hines in his book ''The Four Voices of Man'' calls the ''Gagging or shoehorn position?'' Would that be a similiar sensation, as if one were vomitting? I also did some preliminary research into vomitting - disgusting subject of course but many doctors were talking about how the pharnyx contracts and the larnyx pushes up upon the event of gagging. Does that mean that I have a closed throat? or is something else happening when I do a mini-cough? When I jerk in the abdomen while attempting to breathe down in my lower back and do the mini-gag or cough, I'm cured of my nasality which has plagued me for years, I sing with relative ease up to a High D-flat. Truly, it was because of your lessons on this channel, that I'm able to do this, I'm eternally grateful. Furthermore, I think singing with this Mini-cough has cured me from singing breathy. I already suffer heavily from allergies and I live in a very dry and hot climate, add breathiness to that, and it could be a recipe for disaster. Adding to that, singing with the ''Mini-Cough'' activates my Diaphragm. This is a great thing, but on the other end what is happening at the back of the mouth and to the vocal chords and larnyx? Put in another way, expert singing is not only how to lean (using the back muscles on still, relaxed diagpragm), but also knowing how much to lean for each individual note, with every different note and vowel needing something a bit different to maintain the same equalization of pressure. At least, that's what I'm taking away from this.
