Your video was awesome! This series has been so helpful to me. I have already used the techniques in two hats and they turned out so much better than my earlier ones. It’s really nice to knit with confidence instead of wondering and hoping it will work out! I would Love to see a cable crown tutorial. I think I’m ready to venture out there 😅 Thanks so much for your excellent tutorials!! ❤❤❤

Great explanation and I love making charts to understand what I’m doing. It really helps me to stay on track with stranded colorwork. I use Adobe Illustrator for iPad to create the chart and colors on one layer, a second layer is used to highlight each completed row. Watching you work with charts has really helped me. Thanks for all of your insights.

Thank you so much Roxanne. This is just great and complex. It definitely would need to be charted out if working with a pattern, I am only doing the stocking knit for now, and trying the different decreases. I should be starting decreases tomorrow on my 2nd hat.

Hi Roxanne, Loved the video. But I'm very interested in the hat pattern you were showing in the star on top, the fair isle one. I don't see a link for it. I would love to knit one for my grandson. It is so beautiful. More in common besides knitting, Roxie

Thank you for this tutorial, I’m lately into knitting hats, and this is really helpful. I wonder if there is pattern for that basket weave type hat with the vertical decreases crown. I have a friend who likes wearing kipah like hats, and that could be a good option.
@RoxanneRichardson Жыл бұрын
The stitch pattern is from a stitch dictionary by Melissa Leapman called The Knit Stitch. The hat is really just a swatch. I CO and knit about an inch of ribbing, then knit about an inch in the stitch pattern before starting the crown. I just didn't want to knit an entire hat for the purpose of showing the crown decrease process.

One thing to keep in mind, especially when working with heavier yarns: a purl-two-together can look bulkier than a regular purl stitch due to the fact that there are two strands of yarn in the purl bump on the front of the work. In cases where I'm maintaining a stitch pattern containing purls I will sometimes stick with K2tog and SSK if it makes the decreases more subtle than using purl decreases.

Roxanna, I am interested in the blue patterned beanie, I wonder if you can teach one of this similiar hats with this star top?
@RoxanneRichardson11 ай бұрын
There is a link in the video description to the book where I learned this technique. I can put your request in my list of video ideas, but it could be a long time before I get to it.
@alanptaylor11 Жыл бұрын
Will you be discussing how to make the top of a hat FLAT? I know that many people have no idea how to determine how often to decrease for a given number of sections, especially as the ration of stitch gauge to row gauge changes for different stitch patterns and/or styles of knitting (e.g., stranded colorwork vs plain stockinette vs garter). And, of course, there's always the problem of getting that little point at the top of what you planned on being a flat hat.
@RoxanneRichardson Жыл бұрын
Are you asking for something different than what was presented in the videos earlier in the series, where I explained in more detail how to calculate decrease rates?
@geraldbuttelwerth7670Ай бұрын
Thanks Roxanne. I’m trying to design crown decreases for an Aran hat with cables, twisted and filler stitches. Any suggestions where I can get help for this? Your explanations are so clear. I appreciate your videos.
@RoxanneRichardsonАй бұрын
Every situation will be different, depending on the type of cables, the filler stitch pattern, and the effect you're hoping to achieve. If you post your question in my Ravelry group, along with an image of the chart or a swatch of the stitch patterns, it will be easier to suggest how to approach it. There's a link to my group in the description box of every video.

@ Thank you. I’ll post the question in your Ravelry group.

Thanks for this great explanation. I’m making a beanie with a spiral swirl pattern. Starting 81 stitches, K8, P2, moving one stitch over on each row. Not lined up straight. The crown didn’t work out to match the pattern. I had the right number of stitches until the first four rounds of decreases but not after as I was trying to keep the swirl going. Too many stitches. What am I doing wrong?
@RoxanneRichardson Жыл бұрын
Sounds like your pattern is spiraling to the right, given your pattern multiple and stitch count. In a round where you want to decrease, as you get to the end of your knit sts, work the last knit st st together with the first purl as a p2tog. Your repeat is now k7, p2. The next time you want to decrease, do the same thing, working the first purl of each repeat together with the last knit stitch as a p2tog.
@suz567 Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! You’re the best! And such a quick answer. I thought about doing 2 Ptog but didn’t try it. Frogging back to the last pattern row and doing it again.
