Hello and welcome to another Train Sim World 4 video!
In today's video we're going to be taking a drive on the recently released "Maintalbahn". Set in Germany this route takes us from Miltenberg in the South, right the way up to Aschaffenburg in the North. There's plenty of single and dual track action to keep us busy.
We're driving the DB BR 642 DMU, one of a few diesel multiple units operated by DB. This particular DMU belongs to the Siemens Desiro family of trains, the same family as we operate in the UK, but they're a complete world away!

Just to note Joe, the Stop marker automatically switches back on for some reason after any tutorial you do. So after you've done any tutorial remember to go back into options to turn it off again. Bit of a pain really.

This is a diesel train with an automatic gearbox, probably ZF as you said, given the age of this thing. > The whistle/horn is mounted as a pedal on the floor on some trains. This could be one of them, hence why you couldn't find it (I don't know though, I'm not very familiar with this train). >I did travel on these units some time ago. The flange and junction sounds are pretty good, the engine sound is too muffled and quiet, it's actually pretty loud on these units, as they don't have a very good sound insulation. The real engine actually sounds pretty much like a truck from the late 90's.

Wow, at least we know where the German developers of BS21 and Tram Simulator have ripped their 'modern' tram design from. They've almost just dropped the body over the bogies and made them smaller.

Who are you going to Berlin with Joe? I am excited for the Bernina linie from 🇨🇭 Ospizio de Bernina to Tirano 🇮🇹, no release date said yet, maybe announcements for the Bernina Linie at tsw4 December roadmap, the roadmap is probably coming in like 2-3 days idk

I am not looking forward too it bur i might get it if the reviews are good as rivet has not had that good of a job at swiss routes though I do like luzern-sursee even though it's short but arosa line was not good but I am hopping that it will be good

The 642 does indeed have a staged, conventional gearbox, but IRL they are loud and sound like a truck! These muffled, buzzy, computer-generated sounds aren't realistic at all. And as you said, the controls with power and brake are really messed up; far too sensitive. TSW have been getting better lately but this route and train is a rush job. Needs a pretty comprehensive update. The 642 in TS Classic (from RSSLO) is far better than this one. (Although even that needs a sound mod from Linus F).

I don't think TSW is getting worse, it's just not getting better and people are starting to notice it more. I've been playing the original TSW shortly before investing into TSW4, and it's pretty much the exact same experience, apart from some minor features (like the "dynamic" weather which is for some reason always choosing rainy and foggy weather). But I still prefer TSW to TS Classic if the train/route combo I want to drive is available there. The feeling of driving a real train is just more prominent, there's many little random sounds adding to that, and it's an easy plug and play experience. Not having to mess around with scenarios is a huge plus in my book. The quality of the routes and trains is also generations ahead of TS Classic, where in many cases you only get a single passenger view, as the rest is not modeled properly. In summary - I think, TSW is the better game. TS Classic is only still alive because of all the third party addons. But don't forget when TS Classic started, as Train Simulator 2012, it didn't even have the most basic features, like superelevation. We got there eventually, and we will get there with TSW as well.
