Something I haven't seen anyone else point out yet so I thought I'd do the honors... you mentioned the "mid" scoring, but I think you have the wrong context for it. Bad is rare, OK is mid, and doing good is Well Done. Like how you can cook meats rare, medium, or well done. It ties in with how in the 2nd death screen you're being cooked alive, like how the monsters tried to cook Aliza in the comic. Edit: oh, and there's one last category that seems pretty rare cus you have to do really bad on a note called raw, you can probably guess what that means.

The comic for Horrortale is actually complete (well, it’s technically part one, but it has an end), but essentially the lore goes: Frisk goes through the underground and kills some monsters (10 or more specifically in game, but none of the main bosses), takes Asgore’s soul, and leaves. Toriel tries to take the throne and establish a rule to not harm any humans that fall from then on, but after what Frisk did, monsters were understandably unhappy about this and Undyne overthrows Toriel to become Queen of the Underground. (This is an actual neutral ending you can get in Undertale.) Horrortale officially takes place nine years after Frisk left; in that time, the Core, which supplies magic in the air that monsters require to make (magic) food and survive, breaks down. That’s why Grillby looks like he does; with no magic in the air, his flames use his soul for fuel, and he’s in constant agony. Undyne went to Sans for help, since Alphys told her he was the only one who had any knowledge on the Core’s inner workings, and when he gave her a solution that more or less involved breaking it open to try and fix it from the inside, she sorta snaps bc if that didn’t work, their only source of fresh magic would be irreparable. Then she reveals that Alphys had also said his eye was an unlimited power source, so Undyne cracked his skull to get his eye (also he blasted half her face off trying to escape), Sans destroyed the Core and turned Alphys into a vegetable, and he spearheaded the idea of killing humans as a source of food to the other surviving monsters. That’s the shorthand version, but I really recommend reading the comic 👍

@@Mairusu Also, a couple easter eggs (bc I commented right before finishing the video); the game over for the second song, where Boyfriend is being cooked, is a direct reference to something that happens to Aliza in the comic, and if you watch Sans’ icon during that song, when you’re at the farthest end of the meter, his icon looks amused, and I believe this is a reference to a little side comic that was made for Horrortale as a “what if” Aliza had a date with Sans like Frisk does in Undertale, and actually succeeds in making him laugh. Aka, keeping him amused might’ve been the only way she (and Boyfriend, in the mod) survives that encounter

As for the Sans in the "human" song, I'm pretty sure it comes from an Undertale creepypasta by the same creator as Horrortale. If I remember it correctly, Sans starts having frequent dreams of him being a human, causing him to have panic attacks every time he wakes up and sees himself as a skeleton, thinking he was skinned alive. So to stop that, he starts killing humans to steal their body parts and become flesh and bone (pun intended).

Actually she rips out his eye (with some kind of machine that Alphys made) out of his skull, causing it to crack open (as I remember). She needed because it had enough power for the core to start working again. But Sans survived, thanks to his eye. He killed few guards in self defense and took one of their eye, that’s why his eye is bloody red. Then he destroyed the core out of anger. I didn’t get into much details

I am so glad you played this!! Horrortale is my favorite Undertale AU, and this mod really does it justice! The Interrogation song (dinner scene) is my favorite. Horror Sans just tapping his fingers on the table throughout the song creeps me out the entire time, and the mechanic with the health bar makes it feel like a metaphorical chase, even though you're just sitting at a table. It just has you on edge the whole time and I love it!

Fun fact: the reason Grillby is perpetually screaming is because the oxygen in the underground's gone thinner over time and combined with the lack of food. Grillbys only energy source is his own life essence and his fires burning his own life essence perpetually killing Grillby and putting him through living hell at all times.

so the sans in the third song was based on the '' pick me '' comic made by the same creator of horrortale sans kept having constant dreams of being human, just to wake up in horror of not having skin or organs again because he's well... a skeleton. the paranoia grows so big on him that he kills and takes the humans organs and places them on himself just to feel a little bit more humane

I agree in your idea that Horrortale sans is weaker than Classic sans (It makes sense since HTSans hasn't eaten anything in like 7 years lol.) But he is far more dangerous than classic since he is extremely unpredictable. He does use bones so he isn't entirely without magic and him using an axe isnt fan-canon as he uses an axe (but it also could be interpreted as a meat cleaver to be honest.) when killing Aliza to make a 'head-dog.'. I dont know about the immortality thing though ahaha.

Horror could go from sitting nicely and making a dark joke to chopping your arms off while Classic is more, can go from telling a joke to making a threat. Classic's lack of action is what makes him less of a threat in the unpredictability factor.

Horrortale takes place after a neutral route where the player killed enough people for Undyne to overthrow Toriel when she tries to become queen and make monsters see humans as friends. Undyne becomes queen, sucks at it, and the core stops working or breaks (not sure which) Sans and Alphys get to work fixing the core while monsters start to slowly starve as without the core they lose access to magic as a ressource at this point there's almost none of it left. Undyne becomes depressed and tries to kill herself after seeing how bad things are for everyone and how the core isn't getting fixed any time soon. Alphys proposes to use Sans's eye to jumpstart the core as it contains a lot of magic. Sans hears this from an echo flower and works for days to find a way to fix the core with no rest. Finally he has a way as Undyne summons him to the castle. Sans ready to pitch his idea gets ambushed by two guards and is pinned down while Undyne throws a spear at Sans's skull and takes his eye. While she goes to jumpstart the core Sans gets back up, kills one of the guards and takes his eye to replace his old one (That's why it's red). Undyne's plan failed, Sans lobotomizes Alphys, Sans makes the people of snowdin hunt humans for food instead of their souls and to never breath a word to Undyne about the new policy he instituted under her name. Sans himself while killing numerous humans refuses to eat them. The reason Grillby is screaming is because with the magic almost all gone the fuel that supplied him was almost gone too and now he's perpetually burning alive thanks to his own flames. The reason BF is on a grill in one game over is because Grillby almost grilled Aliza alive until she used one of the freebies and Papyrus saved her. Sans and Undyne hate each other and Undyne went from a depressive queen to a tyrant and turns out that Sans is the only one keeping snowdin safe from her (most of the time at least) not even Papyrus can get through to her. That's all I remember off the top of my head though hope this helped

Actually, the lore begins with the Exiled Queen neutral ending, which means you must kill ten or more monsters, but not Undyne (or Papyrus, specifically when it comes to Horrortale), and Undyne overthrows Toriel for wanting to spare humans after what Frisk did. That’s how Undyne becomes queen of the Underground, and it all goes downhill from there

She could’ve pushed it so far in it broke through his skull, it could’ve popped from the pressure of something non-magical being inserted into his socket, or she broke his skull to insert the tool, but yeah, it’s kinda up to the imagination at that point because it’s not actually shown, just that his skull was broken after she got his eye

Basically, these are the lore for each characters in Horrortale Undyne- After the human killed the king, Asgore, Undyne became the queen and ruled over the whole underground, she wants to build up the defense in the underground and forces all of the strong monsters into becoming the royale guard Sans- Undyne asked Sans to become the royale guard, but he refused, which pissed off Undyne so Undyne threw a spear through Sans's skull (The reason why you see a crack in sans's skull), he has became insane and would find food for him and his brother, he became kind of a cannabal Papyrus - His mindset is still the same as the classic papyrus, but he went insane and started cooking Spaghetti of other monsters...I think toriel- nstead of taking care of the humans, she force the human to stay with her, if the human wants to leave, the human will have to survive her (She still protect the humans but she lost her humanly )
