I first came across this song over fifty years ago and it's quite something to find that it keeps getting revamped with each generation. From its origins with Jorge Ben Jor, to Sergio Mendes, to Nossa, to Playing for Change and on to Danyo and no doubt others that I have yet to find. Each version slightly different but all still true to the original. It will always be one of my all time favourite songs.

Every time I listen to this it sounds fresh and new. Sergio Mendes played the Greek Theatre in LA in 1974 and this lives with me to this day.

By the way I caught the word "Thornton" on the drum set. Are you all graduates of the USC Thornton School of Music, or is this performance part of your studies? Either way, it's great. POSTSCRIPT: after doing a bit of research on this great performance I discovered this is indeed students from USC's Thornton School of Music, and in fact their director (Mr. Serfaty) has played drums with Sergio Mendes. I hope he shows Sergio this great performance. Quite possibly this was filmed at the McClintock Theatre on the USC campus.

Yes, Jorge Ben Jor WROTE the song, but Sergio Mendes had the biggest HIT with it. In fact Sergio had the version most well known in the world. It was Brasil 66's first hit.
