Maisey is singing about Tangaroa (The God of the sea) in making awareness in regard to White Island sea bed mining that was blocked by the NZ supreme court from going ahead. She is a very vocal and socially aware artist. Her artistic body of work always pays homage to her Indigenous Maori identity to the fullest extent and it’s always done so masterfully. Definitely one of my favourite Indigenous Maori artists.
