Hope you like it! Do you have a great idea for soloing over a Maj7 chord that you can share? Leave a comment! 🙂

B minor pentatonic. I nearly always include stacked 4ths and of late have tried quartal harmony as well. I'm surprised so few people know it.

Thank you Hubert! I actually have the impression most people know about that one 🙂 main reason for not including it

+Hubert Van Calenbergh B min pent includes a F#, so I guess it works when Lydian is appropriate?

Yes certainly :)

Thanks. It doesn't include the root though, I guess it can be used to build tension.

I will try these, Jens. Typically, I use Em pentatonic and Bm pentatonic. I use Cm pentatonic or C blues scale sparingly. Occasionally, I'll use C major pentatonic adding an Eb between the D and E. It sounds a little country, but sometimes adds little different flavor. The last is pretty elementary, but can be effective. Thanks for another great video!
@JensLarsen6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Richard! The C "Country scale" is indeed good. You should try to mess around with an E Blues scale as well 🙂

Thanks for an interesting lesson. When using the triad pairs for am and bm, would it be correct to use the flat 5 for the bm?
@JensLarsen2 жыл бұрын
This is an old video. Is it Am and Bm over Cmaj7? Then Bdim doesn't really make too much sense since it is sounding like a different chord: G7

Thank you! I loved the sound of the Emaj pentatonic b6. Have you ever used B minor pentatonic over a C maj7? It’s pretty much just like the B min A min chord pair example you did. It gives you the maj 7, 9, 3, #11, 13, all in one easy to find scale - minor pent. a half step below a Maj7. Great videos!

Thank you Brad! I k ow that B minor pentatonic over Cmaj7, I mostly left it out because it is so often mentioned and I could then include something else 🙂👍

It depends on the context, it is either blues or altered scale. I have a lot of videos on the altered scale and the internet is full of blues lessons :)

What kinda advice so you have for me. I want to really train my ear well and I've been practicing scale degrees chord qualities and intervals I mean I can hear the qualities but when I listen to music Its hard for me to hear the qualities. Especially extensions and intervals. People can listen and say this sounds like a sharp 11 chord or a major 13 Or even in scales, this sound like the dorian. Even though I can sing the dorian scale I won't be able to tell when listening to music.

Sight sing a lot of music and scale exercises. That will help you learn to hear it as well 🙂

Hi Jens!!! Please Check out: The Solo of eef Albers playing over Zeg 'ns Aaa at the eniding of the weekly program Dutch Broadcast Phara television it is is a Fmaj 7 arpeggio mutating into a Cmaj9 9(Em79) as you say it resolves realy nice and changes into a Cm7 chord and than he uses just the Pentatonic minor scale(Whats new?/ but it soiounds realy refreshing!!!!In 16th E F A C - E G B D - B G E C - B C E G - now the minor 7 Cm7 starts in straight 8ths : C G Bb D-C...(okay a 9 so you could see it as Gpentatonic too!!1

Jens - Do you have certain chord tones you prefer for resolving phrases?
@JensLarsen6 жыл бұрын
I guess I do. The 3rd and the 5th are the strongest in terms of connecting to the chord. Moving higher gets more and more vague and can be used less often for that reason.
