Honestly even my parents wanted me to become a doctor when i was a kid. They saw this movie in 2009 and my dad literally came to me and said that i can become whatever i want in life. He happened to watch 3 idiots movie in a theatre in free time while shooting for his other movie ROBOT starring Rajnikanth and he enjoyed himself and decided to remake to ensure his fellow people should experience such a good movie down South and made this movie for his native Fans of TamilNadu... I would recommend you guys to watch zindagi na milegi dobara and Rang De Basanti .. I have not watched this movie myself, but I watched the remake version of this movie called "Nanban," (which in English means friend[s], or specifically male friend[s]), which is the Tamil version.
