Hi. I love listening to your lectures. Very helpful! I will say that I have seen many patients receive ECT at our behavioral health facility. We have two MDs that are certified to provide ECT and although it seems old school and barbaric, it's being used more and more in our refractory / treatment resistant patients. I have seen amazing results stemming from ECT. The patient is completely knocked out so it's not as traumatizing as it was in the 40s, 50s and 60's and definitely not as traumatic as when Dr. Walter Freeman was around. Keep up the amazing videos. I have recommended them to all of my classmates :)

Ivette Cardelli absolutely! ECT is very helpful and unfortunately, the stigma attached to it from previous years is still prevalent but there are studies that show the effectiveness of ECT in refractory MDD which is phenomenal! Thank you for your support!

ECT has a bad wrap but so helpful for patients that have resistant depression. I have had patient actually ask for it because they are struggling so terribly. I have seen it done and had to watch so closely for the "convulsions"---was literally just a finger twitch. ECT has come a long way from the barbaric treatment of the past.

The terminal insomnia definition is wrong. Terminal or postdormitional insomnia is where the sleeper awakens up too early and is not able to fall asleep again.

Terminal insomnia is not waking up later than usual ! It is early morning awakening.

Tragic how poor the treatment still is. Suicide is our biggest killer of people under 45 and all we have is SSRIs and CBT.

You can try a relationship with God which is more than religion. It is also something people struggled with during Biblical times such as the prophets Elijah in First Kings chapter 18 or 19. Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet because he wrote the book Lamentations. I believe that prayer and my relationship with Jesus is what has kept me going even in the last couple of years. He has been the biggest of the things keeping me going! Giving me the strength the understanding needed to continue on this journey of life. Oh the lyrics to the song he walks with me he talks with me. Can be so true for those that invite him.
