MAJOR DHAN SHINGH THAPA | SRCPS

Major Dhan Singh Thapa was a distinguished officer in the Indian Army, known for his exemplary bravery during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration for valor.
Early Life and Career:
Born on April 10, 1928, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.
He joined the Indian Army and was commissioned into the 1st Battalion, 8th Gorkha Rifles.
Param Vir Chakra Award:
Major Dhan Singh Thapa was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his gallant actions on October 20, 1962, during the Sino-Indian War.
He was in command of a forward post in Ladakh's Chushul sector when the post was attacked by the Chinese.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, Major Thapa and his men held their ground and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy.
He was reported missing and presumed dead during the battle, but it was later found that he had been captured and was a prisoner of war. He was released later and returned to India.
Legacy:
Major Thapa's courage and leadership in the face of overwhelming odds have become a legendary part of Indian military history.
His actions during the war are celebrated as an example of exceptional bravery and commitment to duty.
