In this video, I would like to share a story about a significant component failure on this DD15. I am also going to share what the driver did to save his engine from a complete loss.
So we had a customer contact us about a failure that happened on the road during a load. The customer stated that the engine suddenly lost coolant, and the truck shut down due to the low coolant alarm. During their investigation, they did not find any external leaks of coolant on the engine. A further search found that the coolant lost had entered into the oil. You can check to see if coolant entered the oil by checking the oil dipstick. If you have a noticeability increase in the oil level and a coolant loss, this indicates coolant going into the oil.

This is True I broke a wrist pin on a 2014 Dd13 at 492k, some blame a possible overspeed condition created by the automated manual transmission. Basically too many times of over 2250 rpms when using the jake brake and not switching to manual mode to control rpms better.

Thanks for the video. I experienced the same thing except I turn off engine before it shut down itself. No warning, no lights nothing. Just all of sudden had check engine light on. Stopped tryck assess the situation and noticed drop in coolant and oil at the crank case breather and on the egr cooler and valve connections. Currently waiting on being towed back to Texas.

I'm sensing that piston must have been knocking . At some point he had to have heard something sounding different about his truck . Coolant loss was his only clue. Driver needs to turn the music down and listen to the engine and everything else, that could have been catastrophic

fuel pump, fuel relief valve(on the fuel rail) fuel pressure sensor(on the fuel rail) fuel lines have restriction, dirt inside the lines etc. dirty fuel filters. go clear codes and hook up a loaded trailer and take the truck on a test drive on a hill then come back and hook up laptop and check what codes came up

Well I'm going to just say this I've never met the dude and I don't know much about his rates but the guy must be doing something right if he's got business and a brand new shop I'll leave you with this great work especially on semi trucks is not cheap and cheap work on a semi truck can not only be not good but catastrophic especially when it comes to engine repair buyer of services beware 💯

Now I'm going to say this everybody got to understand it cost money to get programs cost money to run the gas water electric and especially the rent with these newer engines you really got to know what you're doing and apparently his people know what they're doing so it's either you're going to pay a dealership or you're going to pay T.A.T Express at least with Adam if something goes wrong with a repair or a overhaul he's going to make it right dealerships just want to play the blame game ain't nobody got time for that when you ain't making money and losing thousands of dollars a week and you got to remember too paid vacation good starting rate and benefits is how you attract great technicians and that ain't cheap everybody want to sit here and complain about what the man is charging but big trucks cost big bucks to maintain correctly and that is the key word correctly using the right torque specs and having the right tools for the job it is not cheap for the technicians that's why his rates are what they are because his technicians are what makes his business run 💯

Hey man!, great video!, do you think that the pin failure was a secondary failure?, I mean, there is a bulletin and they said that the pin materials had a defect, but beyond that, could be another problem, I know that if the coolant it's not good enough, I mean, not the specified one, some problems can happen, like cracks on cilinder walls or joint damages, and maybe that was the primary reason why water mixed with the engine oil causing heat increase in some parts (like the piston pin) and then, a major failure. Yes it could be. It could be the air compressor, or the turbo, or the liner seal, or the head, or the head gasket. Could he lots of things. Need to get a proper trouble shoot done.

How long it takes to do a in frame rough estament

Depending on parts, the shop, other projects going on. Roughly 2-3 weeks. Seen them take as long as 1-2months due to parts or I’ve seen them take less than a week. If it’s an easy engine to work on and parts are readily available less than a week is very easy to do
