Water diversion is contributing to these floods. People need to learn to let nature do it’s thing and leave it alone. But you stick a few million people in a desert and nature won’t support it without change… and that’s the problem.

This water pools up due to small dams in several places, but if it was left to flow naturally it would eventually flow into Lake Mead: Schultz Creek>Rio de Flag>Little Colorado River>Colorado River. However, the total amount of water from Schultz Creek is small compared to the Colorado River and major tributaries that the Lake Mead.

The mayor does not live in this neighborhood. He did go to visit, document the flooding, and help the residents. You should report on the real cause of this flooding, poor engineering practices (big creek into tiny culvert) and post-wildfire changes to the watershed after the human-caused Pipeline Fire.

Flood control would be helpful. This happens every spring and late summer. The Army Corps of Engineers have been working on flood control in Rio de Flag for over 20 years.

All water needs is 1 mistake in these forced designs & it begins to follow the path of least resistance. Which is waters true intended path. Trees also are gr8 at sinking and soaking water. The Tucson swale (unintended) has a forest built on the side of a canal. The berm that was propped up to build the canal, created this substantial forest. Water soaks & travels at right angels to contour.
