I'm a Pentaholic that's here because of this video. I, along with many others, will be here as long as you keep reacting to Pentatonix. You will find that Pentatonix is incredibly versatile in the songs they do. I recommend "Daft Punk" next to show you another side to them. It's a medley of Daft Punk songs that Pentatonix made for a total of $400 and won them a Grammy. A song that many people think is one of the greatest ever recorded is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Pentatonix spent 6 years getting ready to record it. Sound of Silence and The Prayer will leave you stunned. The bass singer, Avi Kaplan, who looks like Jesus in the video, left the group in 2017 and was replaced by Matt Sallee. Pentatonix has hundreds of videos on KZbin with over 7 billion views. Most are covers but some are original. Mitch, the counter tenor, is one of less than 10 known people in the world with a 7 octave voice range. Kevin, the beat boxer, is a world class cellist who was the featured soloist twice at Carnegie Hall. A few of Pentatonix's videos have him playing the cello.

I subscribed, hoping for more Pentatonix. Like most Pentaholics, I love watching people learn about this incredible group that has quite varied musical content. I haven't read the comments, but they started out by winning the 2011 Sing Off championship (all those videos available on YT). Well worth your time. You'll find us here, watching PTX songs for the hundredth time! LOL

I always love finding people who have not heard PTX before. One caution, while PTX themselves love reactors, the music overlords don't seem to. You may face blocking issues in the future. Just keep in mind, Pentaholics, as we are called, don't mind filters over the videos. We have seen them numerous times. We are interested in your reaction. I hope you take on this journey and expect a huge surge in subscribers if you do.

You can't go wrong listening to anything Pentatonix (also abbreviated "PTX" - it makes searches easier) has released; it's all gorgeous. But all pentaholics have our own personal favorites that we like to recommend. And I'm sorry, but it's impossible to avoid Christmas songs when giving a list of Pentatonix favorites - most pentaholics listen to them year-round. There were three songs on their 2023 Christmas album that I think may be nominated for a Grammy next year - do you REALLY want me to leave them off the list? So these are some of my favorites: • "Hallelujah" ( a recent live performance, with Matt: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKLTmZuGltWepcUsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL ) • "Imagine" (the official video) • "Sound of Silence" • "The Prayer" • "Bohemian Rhapsody" • "Run To You" (an original, written by Avi and Kevin) • "Happy Now" (another original) • "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "O Holy Night" (they did a totally new recording for their 2023 Christmas album; you can find the official video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJatcohoor2gbtksi=upj2Q3vLqigVEtgm ) • "Pure Imagination / Christmas Time is Here" (preferably the live Vevo recording) • "Kiss From a Rose" (preferably the live Vevo recording) • "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" • "The Lucky Ones" (an original, written by Scott) • "Thank You" (an original, written by Scott and his then fiancé, now husband, Mark Manio Hoying, shortly after the end of COVID lockdown, about how much easier it was to get through that time because they were together) • "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth." This is a live feed from a concert they gave in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epOmkqasmLOrbZo Additionally, IF you're familiar with _"The Wizard Of Oz"_ (the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland), I recommend "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)": kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5y5ln6YZ86aqMk If you've never seen the movie it won't make sense, so take care of that first.

Pentatonix a "brief" background. They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on KZbin, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his KZbin videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on KZbin), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on KZbin, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. It is an often debated subject among the Pentaholics as to just how soon we introduce the "Beginners Guide" as we don't want to overdo the introduction. This is a compilation of snips of a whole load of songs which PTX have released. It highlights each member with some of their solos and then a brief history in video. It is quite long - 14+ minutes and is a little dated now (Feb 2020) but is a good watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/onXbepmtm6igh6c&pp=ygUdYmVnaW5uZXJzIGd1aWRlIHRvIHBlbnRhdG9uaXg%3D. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. A good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They have Grammy wins for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene featuring Dolly Parton. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Another nomination for Holidays Around the World album in the 2024 list! Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! They came 3rd in the 2023 Masked Singer performing as "California Rolls" being unmasked in May 23. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage. 4. It is "Pentatonix" there is no "The".

The Prayer is a good one and so is their rendition of Seal’s Kiss From A Rose on VEVO. Anything really is good by them. Their bass singer (Avi in this video) left on good terms in 2017 but their “newer” bass singer has been up to the task. He is different but still equally as good. That is their only change since 2011. The lady and the smaller guy change their looks frequently but when they open their mouths you will have no doubt who they are. Enjoyed and subscribed to hear more!

There was 1 member change Avi Kaplin the Bass, and the guy many think looks like Jesus, left for personal reasons in 2016... helped the band replace himself with the newest member Matt Salle(?), featured on the Seal upgrade. Enjoyed your reaction to this amazing group performing this beautiful song! I hope you'll be including Pentatonix in your reactions from now on! The name Pentatonix (PTX) is a play on the pentatonic scale, which uses 5 notes per octave - Penta meaning 5, for both the pentatonic scale and the 5 members of the group. The group formed in 2011 to compete on the a cappella competition TV show The Sing-Off - and PTX won their season! Avi Kaplan, the bass singer in this video, left the group in 2017 and is now enjoying a growing solo career. The bass is now Matt Sallee, who you will see in all videos from late 2017 to present. The other four members are all the originals from 2011. If you'd like to hear Pentatonix perform this song live, they performed it for a studio audience on a Christmas TV special shortly after they recorded this video (the outfits they had on in their outro of this song are the same outfits they wore on the TV special). kzbin.info/www/bejne/npKpeaWcost7mMU To hear something more recent, they released a cover of Seal's Kiss From a Rose live at VEVO Studios just a couple of months ago. In this one, you'll see Kevin (the beatboxer) playing his electric cello while beatboxing simultaneously (he calls it cello-boxing). kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2SxdnmLhLGnrtU

This band is Exceptional in every way. Down to the sunset over Mitch's hat. Practice of course, but the day of filming Kirstin (Kirstie rhymes with Thirsty) had trouble walking so she stood still in front as the 4 boys walked up to her. Every member contributes to the band equally. 4 verses each sung by a different member. Kevin (Beatboxer) does not sing in this song, but he keeps the rhythm of the song. He also has perfect pitch so every one tunes to him This was on their Holiday album which means they filmed in the desert summer and had to take breaks in temp 110°F to 122°F like in Death Valley. Pentaholics will find you and guide you through this large rabbit hole. Welcome to PTX.

Pentatonix suggestions: "Say Something", "Havana", "Mary Did You Know" (Christmas)
@margretrosenberg420
@margretrosenberg420 10 ай бұрын
This was recorded in the studio for release on their 2016 Christmas album, "A Pentatonix Christmas," so in the official video they're lip-synching to the music they've already recorded. Which, in the case of Pentatonix, means that they're actually singing the song so they're in proper time and completely synchronized with each other and all their movements are genuine. But the audio track is from the studio recording. This was shot in the Mojave desert outside of Barstow, California. Because it went with a song on that year's Christmas album, they were all dressed in warm winter coats, even though they were filming it in August and the temperature was around 98° Fahrenheit (36.667° Celsius), so they were all miserably hot. Kirstin had injured her foot or ankle and was unable to walk with them; it was as much as she could do to stand in one spot while the men walked up behind her. And they were off-road and afraid that they wouldn't be able to find their way out in the dark, but they really wanted the video to include Mitch's hat eclipsing the setting sun. So they needed to do it as quickly as possible and then leave immediately, which is exactly what they did, and they were VERY relieved to be putting it behind them. And yes, they did manage to make it out before full darkness fell, just barely.

The members of Pentatonix. In this video we have: • First verse: Tall blond guy, Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. In describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that the actual range exceeds the nominal range. In Scott's case, he sings everywhere from about the middle of a normal bass range through most of a normal tenor range. Probably five or six octaves. Scott typically takes over the bass harmony line when their bass has a solo. • Second verse: Bearded guy wearing a stocking cap, Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends to somewhere in the middle of a normal tenor range. • Third verse: The only woman in Pentatonix, Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Kirstin sings everywhere from a low alto through coloratura soprano, the highest female range. And she has fantastic whistle notes on top of that. Lately Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an alto soprano. • Fourth verse: Guy wearing a wide-brimmed hat, Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), natural contratenor. No one is certain whether Mitch can sing higher than Kirstin or Kirstin can sing higher than Mitch; I suspect that it varies from day to day, though everyone agrees that Kirstin has better whistle notes. Mitch is known for his ethereally beautiful (some say "angelic") high vocals. Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, has said Mitch has "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Mitch switches seamlessly from chest voice to mixed voice to head voice. He has a range of just over six octaves. And we call that stunned look people get the first time they realize that the beautiful high voice is coming from a man, "being Mitch slapped." • The fifth member of Pentatonix (PTX for short) is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth) beatboxer extraordinaire. There may be a better beatboxer than Kevin, but if so I've never encountered him or her. We don't get to hear Kevin sing as often as we'd like because he's generally too busy being the entire percussion section, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally descends to the uppermost reaches of a baritone range. He's also known for the beauty of his falsetto, which goes higher than Mitch or Kirstin's highest notes (not counting whistle notes). Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. When he was a teenager he performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. He beatboxes while playing the cello, which he refers to as "celloboxing." He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had already been accepted to Yale Medical School when he gave up his dream of becoming a brilliant surgeon to pursue his dream of becoming a professional beatboxer instead. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs the whole planet seems like a brighter place. In 2017 Avi found it necesssary to leave Pentatonix, for a variety of personal reasons. He has since gone on to have a very successful solo career, and I strongly recommend subscribing to his KZbin channel, which you can find here: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic Avi's replacement joined in either late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it); you'll see him in a lot of their videos: • The second black member of Pentatonix is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. In addition to being the newest member of Pentatonix Matt is also the youngest member, and I'm told that bass voices improve with age. Matt's range seems to be growing on a daily basis right now. His current lowest note seems to be A1, which just barely counts as basso profundo, though not the blowing out speakers variety. But on his high end Matt reaches nearly the top of a normal tenor range. To find his current range I recommend listening to a recent live stream of "Hallelujah." You can find one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKLTmZuGltWepcUsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, and it will blow you away.

I suggest Kiss From a Rose (Vivo live) to give you an idea of their most recent work, and others have made great suggestions, but honestly you can throw a dart at any of their covers, originals, collaborations, medleys, mash-ups, or solo side projects and they will never let you down! Subbed for more! Welcome to PTX!

6:50 Most honest thing a reactor ever said. If you like these guys check out the group Voiceplay. They have a pretty rabid following as well. It's considerably more, let's say theatrical, but I'd suggest "Oogie Bogie's Song" if you want an introduction as well as a song to react to. You won't be disappointed.

He became famous in his country early in his youth and then in 2017 he was on a Chinese show called the Singer and became world famous. He's had concerts in London and NYC to name a few. Try "Stranger", "Love is Like a Dream", "Sinful Passion" , "SOS", "Passione"...ANY of his!

Great to see another reactor checking out Pentatonix (PTX)for the first time. They're the premiere a capella group out there. They've got a 200+ catalogue of songs out there, some covers and some originals...and not a bad one in the lot. You'll be amazed at what 5 people can do with a song and no instruments...although to be fair, Kevin the beatboxer plays cello at concert level ( he also plays sax and keyboard) and occasionally, when the piece warrants it, he'll play the cello...while beatboxing. Some suggestions on what to play next: Sound of Silence, Daft Punk medley, 90's Dance Medley, Love Again ( original), Coffee In Bed (original), Mad World, Kiss From A Rose, Run To You (original), Sing (original), Evolution of Michael Jackson, Havana, Shallow, Radioactive. Subb'd for more PTX!!

They are even more wonderful live. There is live version of this for one of their Christmas specials. To break down the group, Scott . the first singer is baritone that can go to tenor range and down to bass also. He covers bass when the bass sings solo. Avi the second singer is an operatically trained basso profundo but can sing up to tenor.He left the group in 216 due to family issues and now has a solo career. He was replaced by Matt another wonderful bass. The young ladies first name is Kirsten but she prefers KIrstie and she is Mezzo sopranos that sing down to alto. The gentleman in the hat is MItch and he is a natural counter tenor with a six or seven octave range. Just anote about Krstie and Mitch- they often change their looks but its still the last gentlem is Kevin/ Heis their vocal percussionist(aka Beat boxer and sings tenor when he i=he is not beat boxiing. He us a Yale pre-med graduate . speaks several languages and is a concert trained cellist. He developed a skill call cello-boxing in which he beat boxes and plays the cello at the same time. He sometimes does this in their videos but you will always see the cell or any instrument they play. They have a huge catalog. The reason that you have never heard of them is simply that the radio stations have not figure how to play their music. They tour extensively and have wide international fan base due to You Tube and their tours. Enjoy/ Don't really have a favorite song but any of thier Christmas music, The Prayer, Kiss By a Rose, Amazing Grace the topp fifty or so. Also their medleysof famous singers are wonderful

Recommend bohemian rhapsody or daft punk or ... basically you can't really go wrong. They also do original music and have won 3 grammys ( the only acapella group to ever win) and have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Formed in 2011 they have had one member change in that time. They may occasionally include an instrument but if so you will see it in the video. You'll quickly become addicted to this incredible group. Enjoy 😊

Pentaholic checking in! Daft Punk, any of their 'Evolution of' videos is awesome as well, Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, 90's Dance Medley, if you want to check them out live I would suggest their 'Popspring 2016' performance...it is about 15min long but they perform 4 songs - 3 of which are Originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water) as well as one of their Evolution songs..it is a must listen! Also since you're going down the rabbit hole of PTX, their label is mega rabid about blocks unfortunately so a few tips I have seen some other reactors do that seems to help - lowering the opacity of the video itself..as well as putting logo's or words overtop of it like 'blocked due to copywrite' all over it to obscure the video (The video is usually what gets blocked - sometimes the music but pausing often to give feedback and commentary helps), you could also put a filter overtop like bubbles or something to further obscure. Looking forward to more PTX! Subbed :)
