It is not as if it was going to fix traffic. The only solution to traffic is alternatives to being in traffic.

100% real talk right here. If Americans ever wise up they'll realize we need to distance ourselves from auto-dependency like a heroin addict needs to get of the heroin. It's a sad state of affairs.

It doesn't cover the roads anymore bud. It's been short for years and years now. Probably closer to decades. Motorists haven't covered the cost of roads (gas tax really, if only spent on Interstates, at it's peak intake only covered about 98% and it's way down these days).

The governor spent all the money on his pet projects. Now are roads aren’t being repaired?! The price for vehicle registration is thru the roof! Where’s the money Lebowski?!
@ThrashingCodeКүн бұрын
You don't really understand anything about how funding is allocated do you. Nobody with any grasp of reality would imply this is the situation. The roads in the USA are trillions in unfunded liabilities. We've overbuilt and are too full of hubris to admit we did something so hilariously stupid.
@cmdrls212Күн бұрын
The Eisenhower interstate system was always doomed to fail. It is a poorly designed inefficient system that is far too costly to maintain in urban areas that need to move more people than there is capacity. One more lane never fixes traffic and the downtown areas can't handle the traffic volume from one person in one car just to clock in and out. The system is simply falling apart and decades of federal tax cuts for the wealthy have ballooned thr deficit to the point the federal government can't fund even basic maintenance. This is the unraveling long predicted as car dependent development is not sustainable in dense areas.

@cmdrls212Күн бұрын
@@gnosticmind yeah building a system you can't maintain was indeed dumb. That's why the Eisenhower system is failing across the country and you're seeing the result: they can't even afford to patch some holes.
@ThrashingCodeКүн бұрын
Great realizing that some people are clued into how bad off a system it is. It's just insane that anybody even conjured up the thought this thing was a good idea for this size of country. The cost of it is astronomical and the trillions it'd take to build it back to a truly good state of repair isn't ever going to be available again.

100% this. It's a glorified parking lot more than it's a usable asset. We honestly ought to do something with it besides spend billions fixing it and trying to cover it up so it isn't such a god damned eye sore and pollution sewer of cars.
@DLCoates1Күн бұрын
The state raised over 1 billion dollars in the past few years for these “transportation” bills meant for this stuff. Where did it go instead? Oh that’s right, the new rail system! Because you know, making the city look nice just to charge you more totally fixes the issues we have like the roads, homelessness, drug issues, violent crimes, etc.
@walawala-fo7dsКүн бұрын
the rail system is funded via RTA levies, not the general road fund
@DLCoates1Күн бұрын
@ may want to look into what those transportation bills actually funded. The rail was a major part of that.
@neonspark707Күн бұрын
@@DLCoates1 rail expansion was paid by sound transit 1,2, and 3 voter initiatives, not transportation levies. Transportation levies include bus improvements, sidewalks, and bike lanes. The federal highway system is paid by gas taxes, your income taxes. WA also uses sales tax to pay for roads.
@DLCoates1Күн бұрын
@ funny, then were did all that funding go? Because even locally I’ve not seen any roads being fixed but it seems like our officials are living the high lives.
@walawala-fo7dsКүн бұрын
@DLCoates1 you must not go out much then. construction is nonstop all over Washington. Basically there are two seasons, construction and emergency construction.
