It's not even the fact that he lied that gets me, it's that he so clearly didn't need to do so. He has legitimate superpowers, it would be easy for him to just wait for actual emergencies he could respond to. Way easier than setting up fake ones, even! Hell, even if he stuck to street-level stuff, he could carve a very cozy niche for himself. And while he is a coward, that's not my problem with him either. I get he's likely strong enough to, but he's under no obligation to fight giant monsters if he genuinely is afraid to. Hell, even if I had his powers, I wouldn't want to fight something that could eat me in one bite. He could probably have easily arranged something with Townsville where he patrols the streets and the girls don't have to get involved unless it's something big that he's not brave enough to fight himself. To me, his biggest crime is his wasted potential. He wants to be praised as a hero, and he has all the tools to do it legitimately, even within the confines of his limited courage. It's not that he's a liar or a coward, it's that he's an idiot.
