You're absolutely right and the passage to which you're referring happens to be Revelation 22:18-19, where we're warned that if any man adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book and if any man takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take his part out of the book of life and out of the holy city and from the things that are written in this book.

People do it all the time. Read any children’s Bible, listen to any grandmother telling her grandchild about a Bible character, visit any summer VBS program. We love to tell the story of Jesus and His love, but we often omit parts. Pastors skip verses. Translations remove and drastically alter verses. People still read them and God has saved people via all these means. I don’t believe we fully understand what God is doing with this modern retelling and adaptation of His work and ministry on earth to save souls. People are Biblically illiterate. In medieval times they went to dramatization to tell the story. God can use and is using this to bless and encourage and save. Many people around the world are looking at Jesus to seriously find out more about Jesus because of this show. Was that verse in Revelation talking about the entire scripture or only Revelation? I always thought it was referring to what John had just finished writing about in the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

I watched about three episodes before realizing this series amounts to a 'Christian' soap opera. The popularity of this series is the apex of American Christianity. It's unbiblical, it's a false gospel message, and it dilutes the majesty and sovereignty of Christ. If pastors cared more about preaching the Gospel instead of tickling ears and egos, we might actually get real Biblical series instead of shows like this. God have mercy on us.

Thank you for another great presentation and I'd like to say that when I heard the portion that begins at the 9:23 mark, one particular passage that came to me was Matthew 24:23-24, where we're warned by our Lord Himself that if anyone says to you, "Look! Here is Christ!", or, "There He is!", don't believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders in such a way that if it were possible, they would deceive the very elect.

To your question, most translations stay faithful to the original texts but use updated language. I'm not a fan of paraphrases and even some translations are very poor. The difference is that Chosen isn't paraphrasing. It's adding fictional accounts to the Bible and also badly handling Bible passages. Dallas said 95% is not found in the Bible, so that's not a paraphrase, that's fiction.

Good summary I have to admit that I do read some material that gives cultural standards of the days of Christ. Buss, Septimus. The Trial of Jesus: Illustrated from Talmud and Roman Law. Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge; E. S. Gorham, 1906. Was an eye opener on how the Laws of both the Talmud and Roman law was violated during the trial of Jesus. SOmething just reading the story would not be evident. Plan to read it again prior to Easter as reminder of what the world was like during the time of Christ. Not adding any teaching but understanding the culture and rules that existed at that time. IF you get a chance I read this one. Would it be a good teaching aid?

Dallas Jenkins is not a Christian, he's a universalist, just like Billy Graham and Joel Osteen. I've never watched this series, and I never will. Considering it is intended to run for 7 seasons with at least 8 episodes, it would be difficult to see how they could have filled it with events only shown in the bible. So the only way they could fill it up would be with tons of filler and speculation. I’ve only ever seen one episode so I can't comment on it really but I wasn't a big fan of the episode I saw. Why not just stick to what we do know, ie.. the bible.

I find that Melissa Daughtery is undiscerning and she’s putting feelings before principles. Her examination of Dallas Jenkins is so far off that she’s clearly not tethered to scripture. I already know Dallas Jenkins is not a Christian - he’s merely a pretender. But I definitely question her own salvation - as she’s holding to feelings as her driving force and criteria for sound biblical content - rather than holding to the truth of God‘s word. I swear when someone like her and others makes videos about these kinds of topics - I question as to why they even think they have any reason to name drop the Bible when they don’t even hold to it on principle. If she wants to be so extremely naïve and blindly advocating for Dallas Jenkins who believes in a different Jesus of a different gospel, one that has no power to save… Then I have no reason to believe that she’s a Christian either. It sounds like she has an aversion to understanding everything about the topic which she is discussing. She needs to be marked and avoided for sure.
