I love how the founding races are Velociraptors with swords for arms, magic ogres, spooky skeletons and persuasive horse-wendigos, yet they still manage to be at once terrifying with profoundly tragic histories. Hats off to Erikson

Fucking ultra intelligent dinosaurs with swords for hands, *gravity* magic, who can build flying mountains is so ridiculously stupid I actually love it. One of the absolute coolest concept in the whole genre. Amazing shit. K'chain and Jaghut are the best races of the books, hands down.
@tiagodagostini2 жыл бұрын
The only problem is that they make no sense on the long run. Dinossaurs with swords would hardly develop any technology (try to even write withswords in your hands). Jaghut isolacionism poses aproblem that before they became that powerful they would have gone extinct.
@mezla_2 жыл бұрын
@@tiagodagostini the k'chain hunters are the only sub-species with sword hands. there are many different kinds that serve different purposes. also the jaghut WERE going extinct, it just plays out at an extremely slow rate factoring in their "immortality". Unless jaghut are killed they will live on.

@@tiagodagostini Dude just read the books before saying BS. Only a fraction of K'chain soldiers have their hands replaced by blades. The pictures are not accurate here.
@tiagodagostini2 жыл бұрын
@@selinane2Seli-zw3pz The soldiers had the hands replaced. The GUARDS are not soldiers, the assassin are nto soldiers the drones are not soldiers. I advise you to re read the books.

@@tiagodagostini You idiotic first comment shows that you didn't read the book. Yeah yeah, replace soldiers by fighters then. Your sentence "Dinossaurs with swords would hardly develop any technology" is still completly absurd. Wtf is are "DinoSSaurs" btw

These books are some of the best fantasy books I've ever read. Pains me that they aren't game of thrones level hyped, I love Got, but Malazan is on another level

Dude keep it up! I am currently on house of chains right now and there are no good LORE channels. Warhammer fantasy and 40k, LOTRs, and other main stream fantasy have all the lore in the world but nothing good on Malazan. I believe people get overwhelmed buy the books at first and do not have the patience. If you can make a few great lore episodes it will open it up. You have a subscriber in me

despite the number of books in the series.. the world is not fleshed out to the extent many great lore worlds are. LOTR has 20 books of background content since tolkien was rather obsessed about it. 40k has over a hundred books and 1/2 as many source materials from rulebooks. star wars has a hundred books and even more comics. dark souls is a strange exception.. but most of that content exists because it's almost entirely created by fans.

OMG! I've finally found these fantasy races! I was enamored with them years ago when i read about them in an article that boasted anatomical science was put into their creation-it was years ago and I barely remembered anything about it. I thought they were made by some obscure eastern european author whos name I could never remember. But who wouldve known?! It was Erikson!

sorry. but the short tails, K Chain Nah Ruk, we're not so much engineered as they were resurrected. At the time of their creation the Matrons brought the short tails back thinking to harness their power but could not. Results of this denial led to the civil war that destroyed, ultimately, the K Chain civilization. This is as retold to Toc the Younger by the Seer of the Pannion Domin in Memories of Ice. Much more info on the Che Malle is found in Reaper's Gale, Dust of Dreams and the Crippled God, but hey, no spoiler alerts from this fan...

Omtose Phellack was the place where the Jaghut dwelled. As you say, it was not a warren but a part of the Entire realm of Kurald Galain (before it became the Elder Warren of Darkness).

I really can't get behind Erikson's naming scheme. It's jumbles of words that are difficult to remember or get a feel for sometimes. I also feel like some of the races don't have their own strong cultural gimmicks. Some just feel like humans with a different coat of paint.
