Get her started in CAD, it's not that difficult to learn and there's plenty of sample projects to practice with. I used FreeCAD but there's also Fusion360 that she can use for free. It may be too early for 8 year olds but you won't know until she tries it.

We are unconscious when we are asleep or fainted. When we are unconscious, we have no thoughts, no emotions, and cannot see the world. When we are conscious, we know everything. Consciousness is thoughts, emotions, and everything in the world. This consciousness is one. Will consciousness be split in two? Consciousness is not divisible. Do you feel two consciousnesses when talking to a friend? Consciousness is felt only as one. Consciousness is one. I am Conscious and I am the World. Gospel of Thomas "For many of the first will be last, and will become a single one." Jesus said, "Two will recline on a couch; one will die, one will live." "For this reason I say, if one is whole, one will be filled with light, but if one is divided, one will be filled with darkness." Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Don't you understand that the one who made the inside is also the one who made the outside?" Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained. Split a piece of wood; I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there." A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me." He said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?" He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?"

The beast broken & calmed, but will rise again & lead out in the wrecker games. I was at the crowded Salt Lake Off Road Expo yesterday, with vendors & vehicles parked like (packed) sardines. We ran into Jamie, Lizzy, Tom & Matt at the MORR tent, and all were kind & respectful. In particular they were gracious to families with handicapped youth, young adults, that had come to meet Jamie & Matt (& Lizzy & Tom). The kindness & care they showed to "these families" (was genuine world class) outstanding.

@@12Cortana I haven't seen any stress analysis done during the build. Matt seems to have a good eye for load paths when he's fabricating the chassis, bodywork and lift structure, and then he just goes with 'you can't go wrong with big and strong.' But the drive train is a different matter, especially with the very untypical shock loading that he subjects it to. It might actually be OK for its stated use as a recovery vehicle, but I think he's just going to keep breaking stuff if he keeps doing the heavy rock crawling. He might be able beef up parts at the failure points but he'll just keep chasing the weak points in the system until he realizes that he has to upgrade the whole drive train.

I have seen this in the past. This is what you get when you mix high torque, and good tires/grip with a high weight vehicle. As you beef up the parts the point of failure will just keep moving through the drive train. I hope you get it worked out Matt, she is a beast.
@just_me2797
@just_me2797 Жыл бұрын
Yep. Throughout the build I kept thinking that they should be trying to eliminate 5lbs. here 20lbs. there in order to take advantage of the extra beefy drivetrain. Instead the kept adding more. It is a bit like the same idea behind putting 1 ton drivetrain under a Toyota or jeep. Light vehicle + heavy duty drive train = less breakage. This thing broke under it's own weight in a non recovery situation. Hopefully that prototype transfer case he had to take out makes up for it when it is ready.
@dposcuro
@dposcuro Жыл бұрын
@@just_me2797 Remember, they aren't using the transfer case that is being designed for it right now. They are using a stock NP205. The correct T-case is a prototype, and wasn't going to be ready in time for KOH, so they swapped in the 205 just to see how the rest of it worked. The front driveshaft, as they said, needs more strength, and that will be solved pretty quickly. But, Matt also _wants_ the weight of it. Because of the bigger jobs he has been getting. Like dragging 40+ foot motorhomes out of deep sand, or dragging SUVs off the sides of hills, or literally picking up SxSs and dragging them out of trails, or any other situation where he needs the sheer mass, to counterbalance the weight and resistance of the other vehicle he is recovering. I don't know if you've noticed really, but in the early days of the channel, Matt was just using the Banana and other Jeeps to just tug people out of sand, or drag them out of dirt roads when they broke down. Then, as they got their winch situation sorted out, they started taking bigger, heavier jobs. With the Morrvair, they've been dragging 40ft motorhomes out of deep sand pits, or 1+ton trucks with 40+ foot full profile fifthwheel toy haulers out of sand, or hanging off the side of a mountain, with two other vehicles trying to haul a truck back onto the road, or various other situations that are far beyond what they had the capability of doing, and _needed_ the mass of the Morrvair, because the Banana would just get dragged. With the Wrecker? It will make a lot of these bigger jobs a hell of a lot easier, and will be able to do what it would take 2 or 3 vehicles to do, just by itself. I get where you are coming from, I love light weight builds. But sometimes, you just need mass. But with mass, comes the need for non-factory parts, like the transfer case. When the correct transfer case gets in, they will see where the next weak link is. There is going to be a bunch of parts breakage in the next year I bet, until they get get breaking point pushed high enough on all of the parts, that they will rarely encounter it, or at least get it to a easily, and quickly fixed "fuse" part. Kind of like the Morrvair and it's stub-shaft consumables.

@just_me2797
@just_me2797 Жыл бұрын
@@dposcuro I addressed the transfer case situation in what I wrote. I am well aware of all of Matt's rescues, what he has been using, as well as the transition of recovery vehicles and methods. Having sheer mass to get rv's out of loose sand mere hundreds of feet from a hard road combined with massive tires AND ultra low gearing for torque in order to do serious off-road recoveries isn't a great combination though. He will never be rescuing an RV miles up an off-road trail. I am certainly not suggesting using an ultra light vehicle. You will notice I referenced 1-ton axles under a light vehicle, as in making a comparison not a suggestion. I am aware of the need for weight when an anchor point is not available, but if the weight and tire size is such that it is pretty much set back to, maybe, being reliable at just getting itself through off road situations then the benefits are lost.
@just_me2797
@just_me2797 Жыл бұрын
@@marks4925 There is definitely a lot that can be said about the traction being able to hold the weight on a slope. Traction/grip is a bit important and the more force pulling against that grip the less capable it is at holding it.

Just a note I saw from Hollys video, The steering auto return on the rear is nice, but you have no control over static angle now, its either traveling to full steer stop, OR, traveling back to center. Need to add a switch to shut off the auto center, so you can move the rears partially, and leave them in place, till you flip the auto return switch back on, or manually manipulate them where you want them to go

What a great team effort. Kudos to Lizzy for holding the fort down, doing recovery’s and prepping the vehicles for the competition. I see a need for a jump seat in the heavy wrecker’s future. One thing I have found in my 44 years of wheeling is that when someone breaks, someone will do all they can to help you. I'd probably expand that to include most all of the gearhead community! Matt, don't let these breaks get you down. I mean you just did build a whole wrecker from pretty much scratch gathering donor engine, new trans, donor axles, complete custom wiring, 100's if not 1000's of man(and Lady, Lizzy did a BUNCH) hours. To build something so very awesome, One thing I am sure of is that this will most likely not be the last weak link to fail! But, eventually you will get them ll taken care of and you'll some be out recovering with peace of mind that it's gonna do what you built it to do.

Lizzy’s intro for Jake was awesome, especially looking at all he’s done since then. Make MORR t-shirts that say “He is a tow truck driver for Winder towing, and he used to be a mechanic, so he’s here to help” with a picture of Jake giving a thumbs up

I’m usually the last to offer any advice, but the heavy wrecker might need a driveline similar to what the dudes doing sled pulls use. Similar setups with a TH400/NP205 except they’re pushing way more beans than a NA 6.0 LS block ever will lol.

Cool. Yes with a flathead screwdriver I can start most vehicles. Especially dodge Mopar products. Ford trucks are easy as well. Vice grips on the ignition after butterfly is pulled off. Vice grip lock onto round metal around key hole and pull hard on vice grips. Ford will turn over every time. Dodge you gotta slide it in a few inch and slam down hard on end of screwdriver and the round tumbler ignition price will shoot out and break the passenger window if you do it too hard. A big flathead is keys to the city. Cool truck. I see some big ford f700 in my town he's got huge tires and 429 cool truck but this yellow one is a beast. More stable and practical because the ford f700 truck is so short wheel base. I see it flip over easily and I like the wheelbase on this one looks perfect. Beautiful truck.

'All positive Matt." You gave it a good test drive and found out it's weaknesses. All test drives/flights for prototype and one of a kind from scratch vehicles are meant to find the plusses and fixes. Another bonus, your were on firm ground when something broke and not in mid air! You will be top notch for the wrecker games. Can't wait! Unfortunately for me, I will have to wait for the videos to come out since I live in Northern Michigan. Thank You for sharing all your creative adventures and fun!
