Hi JD watched your first day with the Indira surf rod and had to comment on it that surf rod should have been matched up to any bait casting reel as you rightly noticed the difference in the size and height of the guides in a spinning reel the line billows out and so requires bigger dia guides and fewer guides due to the friction where as a bait casting the line would just runoff the reel causing less air friction resulting in a longer cast
