Every time I'm watching any piece of media and I see an attractive woman being killed or mutilated in any way shape or form, I instantly lose interest in the show and feel like shit, especially if the woman in question didn't get a lot of screen time, hence the audience doesn't get to know her. If there's one thing I hate more than anything, it's treating attractive women like disposable eye candy to be killed off later.

@@hewesy7265 Well, the Imperium of Man is far away from being a "unified nation". Almost each planet has a different kind of currency, different laguage, different culture and a different form of worshipping the Emperor. It's more like millions of human inhabited star systems being held as vassals by Holy Terra. They have to pay taxes, send military support and stay away from anything chaos or xenos related, that's pretty much it. Most of those star systems don't even know what is going on out there and their common citizens have no idea about what the Imperium actually is. Stories like the past of planet Krieg show this fact very well. The Adeptus Mechanicus as well as the Navigator Houses aren't really part of the Imperium entirely. They are quiet far above the usual vassal status and could be considered more as a sort of military and/or enconomical ally. That's why AdMech forces basically don't have to follow any orders from Astra Militarum officers. They usually do send forces to help out the Imperium (except they see their own interests endangered by doing so, like during the War of the Beast, when they refused to send help to defend Terra in fear of weakening Mars' defences) in order to fulfill their pacts and agreements, but they operate fully autonomous. When a certain system is under attack, they send out distress signals to warn other systems nearby. Planetary governors usually don't send help because they are just responsible for defending THEIR planet, so all they'll do is fortify their own planet and wait for the Astra Militarum to send help. It doesn't matter how many planets fall during such an attack, cause the Imperium follows a mentality of "We have endless ressources, sooner or later we'll conquer them back." There are just a handful of strategically important planets which recieve help immediately, like Armageddon or Cadia. Big E basically tried to unify mankind and turn it to something we would call a "nation", but there happened a little Oopsy (thanks, Lorgar) that prevented him from finishing his plan. The funny thing is: Though this system seems fucked or retarded, some of history's most successful empires in real life functioned exactly like that.

Caring about someone whos attractive, over someone who's not is a normal thing. Being attractive gives someone broad benefits in life, as seen in the "Halo Effect" whereby we make positive assumptions about people who are attractive. @@wanderhillen2435 agree to disagree. It is a simple game of maths. The lives of a few billion vs the lives of a few trillion. That's the decision for the Imperium of Man. The Dark Eldar to an extent as well. How can we portray the orks in a positive light? All they want to do is fight and kill. Or the tyranids? Or any faction of chaos? It really is a case of doing some bad things for the greater good for the Imperium. Star Wars is like a utopia compared to 40k. 40k is what space fearing exploration would be like in the real world. @@hewesy7265 I agree that Chaos is just in it for the evulz. The orks can't really decide not to fight so it's morally neutral. The nids are just trying to survive and thrive, not so different from the Imperium from a distance. I don't think real space faring will turn out like 40k though. The current state of the 40k universe is there because GW decides to make it maximum grimdark for marketing purposes and because a peaceful galaxy is not a good backdrop for the tabletop games. The real universe has no such restraints. It would probably either be peaceful because centuries of travel time makes the logistics of war infeasible or it would result in one of the factions curbstomping all the others. 10 millennia of constant war and no movement seems extremely unlikely.

This depends by what people mean comedy. In 40K's case it should be the blackest of comedies. Like in the DEldar's case with everything Vect does (AKA: infamous BLACK HOLE IN A BOX) or the Tau giving them some of their own people for "cultural exchange". Hell, not to mention one on the Necrons where they save a Tau colony from being eaten by Tyranids and the Ethereal launches a celebration...only for the Crons to harvest them after said celebration started. And then we have everything crazy the Orkz do. Like every faction should have at least one moment of black comedy. Even the Space Marines and Custodes, not to mention the Sisters. There was this one info on the GK where they have the skull of a daemon prince with his soul enslaved inside of said skull. It's impossible not to imagine the daemonhunters to stand under it and say passive-aggressive jokes towards the daemon while he's raging inside his own skull.

Honestly thats something I find a bit troubling with some parts of the Fandom. There are some people who are so gung-ho about the imperium being the "good guys" because they're human that they unironically justify some seriously messed up stuff in the lore and I've seen it bleed over into their opinions on serious topics irl.

Did you know that the tactic of making lazguns cause people to get injured but not die was actually used in WW1 for a similar purpose. Countries in WW1 specifically made their bullets and guns so that being shot by one would often injure you instead of kill. The injury of the soldier would demoralize their comrades as they would have to see their fellow soldier suffer and then the soldier would have to be cared for in a hospital which drained the nation’s money as expensive treatments were needed the bring them back to health. History is often incredibly grimdark.

Re the warp engine thing. My headcanon was that the engines are in some way connected to the warp and needed the suffering and death in order for them to work properly. It’s almost like a sacrifice to the engine to make it work. To me that also sort of explains why honourable guard do it rather than slaves or servators. Plus a servators soul might not give it enough juice maybe?! The psychic energy from the sacrifice being like the spark that ignites the fuel a bit like in an engine a spark plug to make a (semi) controllable warp rift inside the engine itself. Now what’s really grim dark is when you think of the trial and error experiments that would go into working out exactly how many souls and how slowly they had to die to give the best chance of starting the engine. A few hundred attempts maybe? Thousands?? Who knows...
@kamilmaster1252 жыл бұрын
I believe that the warp engines were refuelled by a person wearing terminator armour because it is sad in the lore that it was used in extremely hazardous conditions and that is why it is built that way. People in the DAOT just had better protection.

4:05 this was NATOs real world reasoning for introducing the small 5.56 round. It doesn't necessarily kill you. It's likely to wound you and consequently you'll be a burden for the rest of your comrades.
@Prometheus198532 жыл бұрын
For fucks sake, when will this myth die... No, it wasn't. 5.56 was developed as part of a series of post-WWII programs designed to increase infantry hit probability and ammo logistics. The end result of several programs was an understanding that infantry combat came down to "snapshots", or small windows of time when infantry were exposed to fire. The solution was firing as many high velocity rounds as physically possible in thar time, and making those bullets as small as possible to increase the ammo load a soldier could carry for a given weight. 5.56 was then specifically designed for the 20 inch barrel of the M16, where it would cause a MASSIVE permanent wound cavity on impact. This was specifically to *INCREASE* per-shot lethality, so that when a shot did hit a target, it had a better chance of killing them outright. Wounding an enemy on purpose is absolutely fucking idiotic, because now you have to fight them multiple times until they finally die. The myth of "taking soldiers off the field" ignores the fact that militaries have had medical companies for centuries that exist just to handle wounded soldiers so that they don't take up manpower, and more of them can return to combat faster.
