I mean.... It's not surprising that ALL of the current R&B female artist name her as an influence. And I am talking singing, dancing, fashion, styling, etc. I was watching a morning show segment a few weeks back about how 90's "Loose/baggy" fashion's have now made it's way back versus that whole skinny jean fad that was prevalent. Guess whom they name dropped when talking about the ladies sporty look? Exactly.

You definitely gotta do more Aaliyah. Yes she was a great dancer and had a beautiful tone. She was a softer singer for style and comfort, but could belt and showcased it on her songs (The One I Gave My Heart To, Journey to the Past, Giving Up which was her rendition of a Donny Hathaway song, I Care 4 U, and Street Thing). To see her dance check out: Are You That Somebody, Try Again, More Than A Woman, We Need a Resolution, and Rock the Boat. She influenced Brandy, Rihanna, Sevyn Streeter, Tinashe, Ciara, Ashanti, Normani, Drake, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, SZA and more.

She wasn’t dating Ginuwine. Missy, Timb, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, etc all came from the same camp so they would feature in each others videos. If you pull up old Timbaland videos you see Aaliyah just randomly doing choreography, etc. they were a real crew.

Oh you have SO much to learn. All these R&B girlies are Aaliyah's descendants, esp. Ciara (who is sort of an Aaliyah/Janet descendant). Aaliyah is a better singer than Ciara and all her descendants, but her voice is light. I sort of think of her as a bluesy singer in that she doesn't do a lot and she tends to have a bit of melancholy in her tone. More Aaliyah I Care 4 U (the best song she ever made) Are You That Somebody? If Your Girl Only Knew A Girl Like You (ft. Treach from Naughty By Nature) Come Over (ft. Tank) Four Page Letter Try Again Loose Rap Never No More I Refuse We Need A Resolution I Can Be (written by Tank) Never Givin Up (ft. Tavarius Polk Extra Smooth

Aaliyah has much more range than Ciara, she just rarely showcased it. If you want to hear more of her power and range, react to her song “The One I Gave My Heart To”. Her song “I Care 4 U” also shows her vocal ability, she really showcases her runs, Falsetto and lower notes on that track. And yes Aaliyah is known for her beautiful falsetto, but she did have some power as well. And she was a dancer, if you want to see more of her up-beat dancing react to her songs like “Are You That Somebody” and “Try Again”.

Aaliyah was an amazing singer, her harmonies, head voice and lower register were some of the best in the game(think solange, Sade and maybe Toni Braxton(because of her lowers register) mixed into one. Ballads that you should check out are: The One I Gave My Heart To, Turn The Page, I Care 4 U, Never giving up, At Your Best( Original) and if you want to see her dance look at Try Again, Are You That Somebody and More Than A Woman music videos. Aaliyah was a well rounded talent. Great Reation! Sidenote: Ginuwine and Aaliyah were in the same camp at the time, he also was s*x symbol so it made since to have him in the video 😂 lol, this was 96.

I'd say she's a decent singer imo. The Ciara comparison isn't too far off but I believe Aaliyah has more range. This was 96, and imo the shift in how Hip-Hop/R&B would be made going forward. Ginuwine and Aaliyah were apart of The Superfriends, a collective of artists who would collaborate with one another. That's why you'll see Missy, Timbaland, and or Ginuwine in most of Aaliyah's videos and vice-versa. Funny because I'm watching an interview of this guy I don't know much about, Mad Skillz, and he was apart of The Superfriends😂 Timbaland produced, and Missy wrote, most of Aaliyah's big hits. React to "If Your Girl Only Knew" by Aaliyah or "So Anxious" by Ginuwine.

A decent singer wouldn’t have the range or vocal ability Aaliyah had . Her and Ciara are no where near the same y’all confuse soft vocals with thinking that person can’t sing when Whitney Houston was about to have aaliyah play the lead role in sparkle because of her voice

She was briefly married to R. Kelly, at a very young age 👀it was a whole thing b/c of the age diff. That’s the start of R.Kelly being looked at for what he truly was smh Aaliyah style and smooth vocals birthed a lot of the girlies now today. She had and still has a big impact on the culture of R&B. She’s kinda a blues singer in a way as well I feel like, check out her discography… her catalog was cut short due to her untimely death. ❤🙏🏾

With all due respect, and I do say this respectively...If the current generation is not aware of one the most prolific golden era's in Hip Hop and R&B, that being the 1990s, it would explain the huge gap in the quality of today's music versus 1990s. The 1990s put it DOWN!!! The fundamentals of Quality R&B have been present since the 1960s while the fundamentals for Rap were established late 80s and early 1990s. Where and why we feel off baffles me.

The gap was created when music shifted from physical CD’s to digital and online access……. The jump in technology created a gap in access to older music…… think about it, you normally knew about music and introduced to your parents generation of music by listening to their music on the radio in the house or the car…… But listening online allowed kids to curate their own playlist and they did not have to listen to what their parents listened to…… this and other reasons caused that gap
