Hey Colin . I really appreciate the down to earth approach you have. And your honesty of not being sure it will work, and the happiness you have that it worked. Ty for being a great teacher to us wood worker newbies .

Couldn't agree more. Great idea, with a great result. Can't wait to try to build my own now, thanks in advance Colin.

This is awesome. Tools need not to be elegant or fancy. They only must do what we want them to do. This Dremel drill press is far more versatile than classical drill presses. It even can become more versatile when you make a small hole in the ground plate. In that case you can drill (small) holes anywhere in a large flat work piece. Thanks for sharing. I just wrote it down on my to do list

You're welcome Hans. I'm glad it's going to help you!

Hah, love the design! It kind of looks like something from "The Flintstones"...and more than doubles the usefulness of the Dremel... I also love the idea of mixing epoxy on Post-Its! Thanks!

I understand it needs distance from the pole, but that huge block of wood and the completely untouched board in the back would drive me crazy, especially if I had the tools to easily make it look nice and take some weight off at the same time
@norbertdavis89036 жыл бұрын
I love this! Great job. I would like to see the dremel have a vertical AND horizontal mounting position. That would allow more flexibility with the variety of bits and tools the dremel can use. The creativity of how one could approach projects would be so much more open.

Colin, your continued focus on woodworking tips and tricks is highly appreciated. Thank you cobber! I remember even some of your woodworking videos were building tips and tricks... the stop in the back of a drawer is one that readily comes to mind. I am glad that I have subscribed to your KZbin channel. Please keep up your high quality content.

It doesn’t have to be beautiful as long as it works! Looks like you got that right on. It even came out better than you thought by it self locking. Nice build and I will probably make me one for my Dremel too. Thanks so much!

What a great idea. The cam at the back works really, really well. You should try adding a stop block type thing to give X deep holes.

That would be a good addition. Thanks for watching!

For all of it's basic layout Colin it has a GREAT advantage over the shop bought. Your big blocky Slide (with cam), gives it a very large reach allowing you to get wide work pieces under it. I think from memory the Dremel stand is only good for 75mm
@knecht1056 жыл бұрын
Yes, the reach is better. Thanks for watching Peter!

Pretty slick trick. That cam is the icing on the cake. Did you put any effort into seeing if the drill bit was vertical and square to the base or do you figure this was more of a 'down and dirty' fixture?

Got to be pretty chuffed when an experiment comes together and works pretty well first shot. Good going, Colin. 👍

Hi Colin! This is my first time watching your channel and I subscribed right away. I found your video since I was actually trying to make a diy drill press for my mastercraft rotary tool. Hi. Thanks for this video. Do you think the dremel can be used as a drill press into maple wood, 1/4” holes with a #5 reamer bit
@davidfarmer20495 жыл бұрын
This is a good video with lots of good tips. What would be useful to me would be parts lists giving approx dimensions .......eveen to the nearest inch. I like your point on wood expanding etc and using plastic instead. Wood is not always the most reliable of mediums.

Good idea for drilling holes in printed circuit boards. And the alignment accuracy (which you didn't address) woudn't matter for such thin material. In fact, this gives me an idea for doing a two post arrangement for holes in wide pieces... hang your slider on a small gantry between the two posts with a linked cam between them for gross vertical movement. hmmmm.
