It clearly required a lot of money, but by no stretch of the imagination does this garden look authentically Japanese. It is the very image of the cliche of the Japanese garden, made for foreigners, where all the different styles are mixed together (when they shouldn't be. Because this garden required a lot of effort and out of respect for the people who made it, it is hard to say, but honestly, it is of very poor (read bad) taste. But it sure matches the house. This being said, Otsukare Sama to the workers.

It’s said, about our Portland Japanese Garden that We are very fortunate to have the most authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan. It was created with the help of master garden designers and gardeners from Japan many decades ago. It’s a wonderful place and it’s quite big. We have a large Asian influence in the Pacific Northwest; especially in the largest cities Portland and Seattle.
