Great video. But hollow ("suki ura") that you made on the blade is on the wrong side. It made for easy sharpening and flatening

I think this is a fine plane but I have a couple of questions. 1. Did you intend to set up the plane for 3 points of contact even though its a smaller plane used primarily for smoothing? 2. why did you put a hollow on the bevel side of the plane and not on the "Flat" part of the blade? I am not yet aware of this configuration of blade style yet. Normally the hollow is on the flat side of the blade and you only sharpen the tip so as you sharpen the hollow makes it easier on the tough steel. Obviously you did use only O1 type of steel so it may not matter. Also the results of the plane are very nice! I am glad you demonstrated on hard woods!

Great job! I have a question though; I have several Kannas and they have the concave recess on the front of the blade not on the back. It is the first time I see one with the concavity on the back. What is the reason for that?

hi my friend the purpose of the concavity is for when you sharpen the blade you dont have to remove all that steel but just the borders

I'm a little confused. Isn't the hollow usually on the back of kanna blades, not the bevel side? I realize there are bevel up and bevel down plane types, but I thought the hollow side was universally the flat side.
@WhiteRhino5595 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right i am not sure why he did it backwards. The reason for the hollow is because the harder (high carbon ) is bonded to a low carbon steel in the process of making a kanna , which would take a long time to sharpen.So they hollow out the flat high carbon side for speed of sharpening .

@argeancomics32915 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Nice work. But, could you share with us what metal did you use to make the blade? Was it a simple piece of carbon steel? What is the thickness of the blade? And, finally, why this model doesnt use a chip breaker? The absence of it doesnt make the blade instable when working?

Didn't you read? The steel is O1.

@@argeancomics3291 I am sure your country have it, with another name. Search in the web the name equivalencies. There are PDF's with the equivalencies from the different systems of steels classifications.
