Hi! Thanks for making this video. Your mimic looks great and I love seeing the process you used to make it from concept sketch to completed project. Using googly eyes to make rivets is especially clever! I've been wanting to try making a mimic dice box of my own, although I do not have much experience as a maker. I see you posted this video a few years back. How has your box held up since then? Is there anything you'd do any different now? Do the googly eyes make a sound when you handle the box? I notice that in some shots it looks like you are using a respirator. What materials in this project should someone wear a respirator when working with them?
@EvilCleverDog
@EvilCleverDog Ай бұрын
@@maskydoo7871 hi! Thank you so much. Mimi has held up well and I still use her to hold my spare dice. The googly eyes probably make some sound but the sound of the dice rattling around inside is louder. If I was making it as something to sell I might choose to 3D print it or sculpt and make moulds to do casts now, but as a thing I just make for myself it holds up fine. For this I believe I mainly used a respirator for the contact adhesive and resin clay. If you want to get into crafting I definitely recommend getting a respirator, gloves and other relevant PPE. Do research on whatever products you’re going to use to make sure you get the right kinds of filters and so on! Best of luck :)

Is the clay washable? That's super cool, and my dice need something like this. Maybe a beholder with a divider in the middle so I can fill up both halves. :)

I also feel so bad for poor baby with those gashes on the back top and front right. Who hurt you, baby? Who did this to you. D: AND THE EYE! How did I forget the eye! ;_;
@EvilCleverDog
@EvilCleverDog 3 жыл бұрын
Once it's set/dry, I imagine so? Although I haven't tried it! But just judging on the consistency is has I think it's pretty durable. I will say I did accidentally drop the box on the floor the other day and not a single part of it broke or cracked, so there's that lol Oooh making some other RPG monsters as different dice storages or models like this might be fun 👀

Great stuff! I notice that at points you are using a fairly sophisticated filter mask, making me realize that I don't know much about health and safety with crafting. Could you point to some resources, or perhaps even to a safe techniques video?
@EvilCleverDog
@EvilCleverDog 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! Yeah absolutely. For working with contact adhesive, resin, spray paints, solvents etc you need a respirator, and filters that can filter out organic vapours. These are the filters I buy: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000U749VE/?coliid=I25IGZXNFIV9GO&colid=24TK8K24LR9US&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1. They go with a 3M respirator which should come up as a recommend purchase with them. I've always used 3M respirators and find them very comfortable to wear, but there are a lot of options around. Filters need to be changed about every 4-6 months depending on how much you use the mask in that time, so it's always good to order a few spare sets! This is a short video that explains the differences between a respirator and a dust mask and some basic stuff about respirator care: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGSufWqZeJ2Vetk This video is about tools to buy for crafting, which includes a short part about safety equipment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGGzgXaMnbWMprs (Punished Props are a really good resource for stuff like this) It depends on what you're doing, but assuming you do work with solvents etc sometimes, I'd recommend getting a dust mask, a respirator + filters, safety glasses/goggles, and a pack of disposable latex or silicone gloves. Hope that's useful!

I might make a few of these for my desk... Maybe find an old mug to modify... Have an old small desktop sized speaker as well... rip out the middle and replace with a mimic mouth and long tongue? Maybe a mimic tail? I wonder if you could use "Proto-putty" to mould the parts (The King of Random does best videos on Proto Putty... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZfaqqd3atdlg9ksi=lyAw8l56hJ95-9pc)
